IF CONSERVATIVES TALKED ABOUT OTHER ISSUES THE WAY THEY TALK ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE
by ORLI MATLOW
“I’ll be dead by the time I die, so the estate tax isn’t really my problem.”
“Frankly, I have never been there, so who’s to know for sure that there’s a country called ‘Iran.’”
“The opioid epidemic may be killing hundreds of thousands, but it’s un-American to deny Purdue Pharma their right to make millions.”
“How could there be a gun violence problem if nobody’s shooting at me right now?”
“No need to hurricane-proof your house — there are other houses.”
“It is absolutely out of line for a doctor to tell a patient that if they want to live, they have to change their eating and exercise habits.”
“Just because people commit murder doesn’t mean that they can stop committing murder.”
“As a Michigan fan, I refuse to accept the existence of Ohio State.”
“Doctors say that smoking causes cancer, but I think I’ll stick with the lobbyists on this one.”
“What good does a ‘Treaty of Versailles’ do for the United States? Versailles is in France, libtards.”
“Why would an abortion doctor know anything about abortion and doctors?”
“A border wall is too costly to be practical, and telling private property owners what to do with their land is heinous government overreach.”

Re: Conservatives and Climate Change
WTF
Oregon citizens and state troopers are keeping an eye peeled for AWOL Republican state senators who by being absent from their legislative jobs are stonewalling a vote on stricter pollution standards to battle climate change.
All 11 of the chamber’s GOP senators walked out of a legislative session Thursday and are in hiding to block passage of the historic bill. They don’t have the votes to stop it the old-fashioned, democratic way. The walkout leaves the Senate two people short of a required quorum before a vote can be held.
A rightwing militia group has vowed to “protect” the senators from any miffed voters — or police. A special legislative session had been planned Saturday but the Capitol building in Salem was shut down by law enforcement authorities as a safety precaution, Reuters reported..

Re: Conservatives and Climate Change
Not defending militia or its actions. But, Kate Brown is a moron. And a dishonest one to boot. She bullies her way to legislation under the guise that if she can carry Portland then she can make decisions for the entire state based on what benefits the metro area.

Re: Conservatives and Climate Change
Pass it without a quorum and sign it into law. They have to come back in to mount a legal challenge. When they come back in arrest them and pass it with quorum! Win-win situation
Re: Conservatives and Climate Change
Not defending Kate Brown or her actions, but Mitch McConnell is a moron, and a dishonest one to boot. He bullies his way to legislation under the guise that if he can suppress enough minority votes and carry enough sparsely populated western states then he can make decisions for the entire nation based on what benefits his party, whether it destroys decades of comity and precedent, or not.TDub wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 8:08 pm Not defending militia or its actions. Re: Conservatives and Climate Change
This is not a win win. The issue isnt this specific bill necessarily. Its the fact that she has a history of ramrodding law through without allowing for a peoples vote. The point is on legislation such as this the citizens of the state should be allowed to vote. It is also about modifying Bills after they have been ironed out with representatives just prior to the vote in such a way as to change the essence of the bill without making the representatives aware of the changes.

Re: Conservatives and Climate Change
Without allowing for a people’s vote? Who elected these lawmakers, anyway?
If the citizens of the state should be allowed to vote (instead voting for representatives to vote for them), you really think it would make a difference against the popular majority in the Portland metro?
We can only imagine the OuTrAGe if radical left wing militias were courting violence in petty defense of democratic lawmakers who skipped out on their state.

With the biggest difference being, at least Brown has the support of an apparent majority.
