i actually considered the possibility myself recently, though i don’t think one would be accepted to do basically the same thing (but maybe that math field is more diverse than i think)
Having done in a PhD and post-doc in a totally experimental discipline I don't have the urge to go back to grad school. Until a few years ago I was still spending part of my time in the lab, and in a way I was doing basically what I was doing during PhD and post-doc but getting paid much better and don't have the pressure of writing thesis and grants. Of course, the trade-off is clinical trial timelines and FDA filings!!
if i was single, it would be a serious consideration

MRI on my head/brain today.
Insert joke/s here ________________________________ .
Last time I had an MRI I was unexpectedly rushed to the emergency room and had to have "emergency surgery" to have my appendix removed. Didn't even know I had appendicitis.
Not sure if I will laugh or cry if they rush me to the emergency room to have my brain removed tonight.
Hey - at least I have a not funny sense of humor about it.

In all seriousness - 30+ years ago I was diagnosed with an inner ear issue. Clogged Eustachian tube.
Never fully healed and have had residual affects for 30+ years.
Went to see the Ear/nose/throat Doc last week and he is convinced what I am currently dealing with ("imbalance") is NOT an ear issue. Well, it's some issue and something clearly isn't right.

Stay tuned......

Sorry for the interruption. Back to what are worthwhile and what are pretty much worthless PhDs.
Carry on.

99 - Thank you!
Dr. - I haven't heard from the Doc/s nor received the results yet so at the moment I am figuring no news is good news.
Still something definitely not right.
Hoping to attribute it to either meds, thyroid or blood pressure issue/s and then treat it/them.

Thank you Feral!
Got the results. Relatively ok. You being a Doc and all, you might understand all this....
A large retention cyst/polyp is present in the right maxillary sinus. There are small to moderate-sized retention cysts/polyps in the left maxillary sinus. Near complete opacification of the left aspect of the sphenoid sinus may relate to mucosal thickening or an underlying retention cyst/polyp. Mucosal thickening is present in the frontal and ethmoid sinuses. Trace fluid is present in the inferior right mastoid air cells. There is a 2.8 cm nasal septal defect.

Anyways, I thought this was kind of funny.

Here's a couple of articles with concise summations of the cysts and polyps. As they mention, the cysts and polyps are usually found "incidentally", while you're looking for something else, e.g., "imbalance". You wouldn't necessarily do anything about them unless they're symptomatic - causing you persistent/recurrent sinus congestions and infections, etc. Fortunately, you're already being seen by an ENT physician, just the person to help you ferret out the best way to proceed.

BTW, when/how did you break your nose? Are you sure your nasal septum isn't deviated 2.8 mm, not 2.8 cm? Because, 2.8 cm is > an inch displaced.

Paranasal sinuses retention cysts

Sinonasal polyposis

Thanks for your post and the links!
While I have had blunt force (direct line drive from a baseball) to my nose, I could be wrong but I figure my current issue/s can be attributed to my nose being "broken" with the help of an illegal substance.
Not sure about the nasal septum but thanks to you I will confirm with the specialist if it's mm or cm.

And now for some good news:

People Are Taking Emotional Support Animals Everywhere. States Are Cracking Down.
More Americans are saying they need a variety of animals — dogs, ducks, even insects — for their mental health. But critics say many are really just pets that do not merit special status.

Image

A 26-year-old Starbucks barista in the suburbs of Tampa known as Vayne Myers has suffered from anxiety ever since he was a child. A co-worker suggested he try an emotional support animal.

So Mr. Myers bought a duck and named it Primadonna. The snow-white bird has worked wonders for his state of mind.

“Whenever I felt like I didn’t matter in the world,” he said, Primadonna would waddle over and remind him that “something does love you.”

But Mr. Myers’s landlord objected, and demanded proof that Primadonna was a medical necessity and not simply a pet. Mr. Myers provided a letter from a therapist in California who spoke to him over a video chat, and then another note from a counselor who met in person with him (and the duck). But neither document satisfied the landlord, who threatened eviction.

If you don't mind losing your current job, then go ahead.
