Bingo. The WMD thing cuts against an orchestrated 9/11 conspiracy, not support one. It's interesting to see people take things their own way.

By the way the boogeyman at NIST isn't the only one who wrote a report; there was the Structural Engineering Institute, the American Society of Civil Engineers. Those folks aren't government drones, those are engineers working in the field of tall buildings who want to limit the chances of this happening again.Feral wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 5:50 am^^^
Good luck trying to educate someone who so casually impugns the integrity of the NIST. One of the earlier tells was when lobster totally disregarded the concept of peer-reviewed evidence that you and Trad tried to school him on.
And thanks to Japhy for the input.

Normally I ignore this bullshit but the longer the crazies keep ranting, sooner or later they catch one more person's ear and the virus spreads.

This thread makes me sad. And also is instructive in understanding how we're at where we're at.

Correct. It's a case study.

I think it is important to continue to allow individuals to discuss their opinions even if not rooted in facts as crazy as that sounds.
It is dangerous to let misinformation spread but I think it is even more dangerous to mandate and silence the flow of information.

Well, so could a lot of ya'all on the poli-bored.

Who, me?
Actually I don’t doubt it. But if you wanted to give me examples, please do. Just trying to expand my own self-awareness.

I only read the poli-bored to make sure the rules of the bored are being followed and for when i'm feeling optimistic about life and just want a reality check.

I don't believe in telling people they're simply not allowed to say things that are hilariously wrong or off base. I also, however, don't think we need to sit idly by as hilariously wrong and/or off base thinking bleeds into how we make policies in things like foreign affairs, responding (or, just not responding, I guess) to climate change and the rights (for example) of certain groups in our country.pdub wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 9:47 am I think it is important to continue to allow individuals to discuss their opinions even if not rooted in facts as crazy as that sounds.

Dr Shirley looked at my wrist and said it was a repetitive puppeting injury, so will have to avoid casting for awhile. Due to message board-doctor/patient confidentiality rules, Shirl can't give you the details of what brought this on but let me say that some of you should be cautious.ousdahl wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 9:38 amthaaaat’s more like it.japhy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 8:58 amBy the way the boogeyman at NIST isn't the only one who wrote a report; there was the Structural Engineering Institute, the American Society of Civil Engineers. I asked her if weed would help.
She said, maybe.
So I spent last week doing intensive rehab out in the San Luis Valley, and scouting Saguache Creek and Carnero Creek. I convinced myself I feel better so will come back out for more rehab in the middle of July and hit up Saguache when the water is down. Luckily Shirley says the puppet hand injury should not affect my puppet voice activities. So while I am out there I can continue to use my Oklahoma puppet voice to call the activities desk at the ranch and try to schedule last minute fly fishing lessons and horsey rides. I am also thinking about renting a big ass fifth wheel trailer to drive back and forth over Berthoud Pass really fucking slowly in the passing lane. I did that in Bighorn Canyon on my way out to the SLV and back, it was great fun. Talk to you soon.

"I also, however, don't think we need to sit idly by..."
Certainly not.
But a couple of those things you mentioned ( foreign affairs and human rights ) are more opinion based than they are fact based so while you may think they are hilariously wrong or off base there are a large group of people that don't think that.
Completely disregarding them and saying 'you're hilariously wrong' I don't think is going to get anyone anywhere. There needs to be compromise - budging from both sides in order for something to happen. That may mean giving into values that you aren't 100% behind but can live with.

That would be too obvious, he would figure out who I was and hang up. I am going for something closer to the sound of a 5'-6" mid level manager at Williams Pipeline in Sansabelt slacks from Tulsa with a chip on his shoulder and a harpy for a wife and a daughter I call "Princess". Every time I refer to her as "Princess", Ousdahl throws caution to the wind and gets all ears and tries to appease me. Let's call this the "Ousdahl challenge". I should probably move it to the tourist thread.

Yea -- I think it begins with the right candidate/leader who isn't driven to divide.
