Welcome to the hypocrisy of today's GOP.Feral wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2019 8:11 am I can't stop laughing:
Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey who built a political brand around unfiltered frank talk aimed at political opponents and constituents alike, is starting a think tank centered on something unexpected: Civility in politics.
"Unfortunately our politics have gotten so ugly and divisive in the country that people are not having civilized conversations," Christie told NJ Advance Media, which broke the news...
Imagine accepting this position thinking "OK, this is a safe appointment. No real concerns here. It's not like this moron would try to buy Greenland or anything."Feral wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 7:16 am It had occurred to me to feel sorry for our diplomat to Denmark, but then, who am I to piss against Karma?
And while DonnyDimwit is vilifying Denmark endlessly for hurting his feelings, let's keep in mind that 43 Danes have died in Afghanistan after joining our coalition in the wake of 9/11.
Sounds like you're saying that trump thinks climate change is a real thing.TDub wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 2:14 pm I've said it before, I'll say it again. The thought of buying Greenland is not moronic. How he went about it and the aftermath of it are perhaps what is causing the rub, but the actual idea of buying greenland is not an awful one.
As the ice melts there will be new and improved arctic shipping lanes opening up. Sure wouldnt hurt to have some control over those. Increasing the amount of land owned is not a bad thing. In a time when fresh water scarcity is a realistic possible threat it wouldnt hurt to own a huge block of ice either.
I don't think it's a bad idea either. Seemed to come out of left field though.TDub wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 3:34 pm I dont care what trump thinks or doesnt think. What I am saying is that Greenland wouldnt be a terrible acquisition.
And I'm saying that of all the things that he does or says to get worked up about I dont think this one is one to focus on and call out as "moronic"
Let’s set up a fort, and start buyin’ the place with beads!jeepinjayhawk wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 3:55 pmUmmmm.....that's not how we 'Merica up foreign lands....
Agreed. I'm sure one of his oilmen osomething suggested it. I've also read greenland is potentially rich in "rare earth"... something that is used in processing chips and cell phones etc and something that is mainly mined and controlled by China. Perhaps he is concerned about his trade war impacts on this product and trying to get ahead of that. Who knows.jhawks99 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 4:30 pmI don't think it's a bad idea either.
