Royals
Re: Royals
I would like to see Gordo retire a Royal. He might be in a reduced role.
Re: Royals
Won 5 of 6 now. Lopez looked great on the mound.
Re: Royals
6 of 7 and three straight series wins.
Re: Royals
They have a chance to not lose 100 games.

Re: Royals
So, Soler could very well end up leading the AL in home runs. A breakout year as I predicted.
Yet, I have no desire to re-sign the guy. At his peak, 40+ HR/100+ RBI player with a 2.5 WAR. We all know why those numbers don't seem to go together.

Re: Royals
I'd sign him for the right price (Captain Obvious)
But I think he's a DH from this point on in his career. He could very well turn into a Nelson Cruz type of guy. Can play RF in NL parks but will DH 140 games each year and do very well in that role.

Re: Royals
Well that's kind of it--there is not going to be a good price for the Royals because we already have a catcher that needs to spend a lot of time at DH.

Re: Royals
Could Salvy go the route of Mauer and become a 1st baseman after the knees just can't do it anymore?
If he could, there's not much mobility required there and would still have bat in the lineup.

Re: Royals
Did Soler arrive in the Wade Davis deal?

Re: Royals
For all the well-deserved hand-wringing over Soler's defense...it's not like the Royals are sitting on a bumper crop of OF prospects. Assuming Gordon retires, Soler can slide down the defensive spectrum to LF, and split time between there and DH.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 10:12 am Well that's kind of it--there is not going to be a good price for the Royals because we already have a catcher that needs to spend a lot of time at DH.
If you can get something worthwhile for him, sure, deal him. But there's value in him being around to mash dingers while the prospects develop.
Re: Royals
Soler was a steal. The painful bullpen blinded me. Best power in Royals history, superball or not

Trout done for the season.
Royals will have a HR champ for the first time ever.

Re: Royals
I mean, Matheny is fine. .555 winning percentage, went to the playoffs a lot.
Do wonder if the new owner changes things. Under Glass and Moore, it was no doubt Matheny was taking over. Now it's not as certain, but I'd still say Matheny over the field for the next manager.
It would be a blah hire, but the Royals don't need anything crazy. They just need to win.
