Re: Miles to Go Thread
Les looked shell shocked sitting in the office talking about the loss.
But, to give him and this team credit they certainly looked upbeat and ready to go on the following practices.
I'm not expecting much on Friday. Play hard. Give effort. Don't commit dumb penalties. See what happens after that.

Re: Miles to Go Thread
Yeah he was very hurt by the loss. From the talk to the team after the game to talking in his office on Sunday, he hurt and you could tell.
Sunday is the day to talk about the bad loss and what went wrong. Monday is the day where the week starts new and whatever happened last week goes out the window.
But I agree, be competitive for most the game, use your playmakers in the correct spots and make Kansas fans proud of the effort you put forth. The effort has always been there, the execution has not.

New one out a bit ago.
Love posting as I watch.
After Stanley’s INT on first drive, Miles and Koenning agree that they’ll give him one more series to see if they need to change out. Stanley mentions he has been pulled in past for that so it was in his mind.
They get some yards but punt, then BC punts and then KU goes down and scores.

Staff seemed very pumped up for the game.
Like how every sentence they say basically we’ll kick their ass.

That was a fun episode.
It’s always neat to see a QB2 come in and succeed when QB1 gets hurt or benched.
If Stanley can stay consistent moving forward, this will be even more fun to watch, win or lose.

Have to be happy for Stanley. That was as big of turn-around as we have ever seen. A switch came on. Fear of failure had led to failure; he started punching back was no longer worried. He hit rock-bottom and pushed it out of the way. A lesson for all of us. The thing you dread will drag you down and drown you when you fear it. You let it catch you at your own peril. Stanley just started launching sharp lasers and even his own body. He literally could not have been worse on his first two drives and became bullet-proof as a result on later drives.

Another good episode.
Focused on national media attention growing in the program. National writer from USA Today came in for pressers and was interviewed later saying that you can just tell something feels different.
Good feature on Parchment and what he went through to get to where he is and how well he has done. Wants to get Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, but didn't realize Hurts is a newcomer, so then he said "Well damn"

Brief insights on the game and I am surprised they didn't mention the onside kick.
Damn...re-watching some of the game and you just think about the missed opportunities to win that game. Imagine the momentum and the buzz around this program if they were 2-1 or even 3-0. It is nice to speak of the football team in that light in compared to asking, 'when does basketball season start.'
Lets hope that this Saturday we don't see another Doug Mecham situation. Keep it within two scores heading into the fourth and I will be happy.

Speaking of Meacham. Word is he tried to get back on staff. TCU admins seemed to say no. But Patterson seems to be getting tired of current OC Cumbie which is where that speculation is coming from.

Doug got a bad, bad deal with Beaty here. I wonder if things would be different on offense if he was still here?
I really hope they spread it out and hit short routes to get Carter in a groove. Then he can take deep shots which will open up the run game for Pook and Juice.

Agreed. Love that there is some special talent. Have hated the dithering on offense.holidaysmore wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 7:58 pm Doug got a bad, bad deal with Beaty here. I wonder if things would be different on offense if he was still here?

Re: Miles to Go Thread
Two sides of the story to account for but this weeks episodes shines a bit more light on the Herbert situation. If you believe what Hull and Les said he (Herbert) along with his mother and step father met with Les on Friday to go over a plan on how Les would make him successful. Sounds like he got on the plane on the outside chance that he might play on Saturday but then informed the staff before the game he was out.
Watching the end of the episode Hull commented that there are now kids who want to be a part of this program. This episode did little to persuade me that Herbert felt like he had better options else where and decided to walk away.
Sucks but if he didn't want to be a part of this that is fine. He has that right and you wish him the best. Moving forward the guys that want to be here are here and you build for the future.
I have zero expectations for Saturday. Be competitive. Win small victories. On offense open up the playbook. Spread it out. Trust that Carter can make plays. It is no secret; when he plays well everyone else does.
Defense - limit as much as you can. With potentially no Lee and Dru it could get ugly. Quick.

Re: Miles to Go Thread
Good episode this week. Lots of focus on Dearmon and for good reason. Dude is confident and seems like it was just a matter of time before he was getting an FBS OC job. Glad it's with Kansas.
Key moment. Dearmon and Pooka hug, and right after Dearmon says, "We're going to get you the ball on the edge more"

Compared him to Tre Mason and Kerryon Johnson.
Nothing but positive stuff. Older Les was a stop gap. Nothing more and nothing less. If that was the eventual move might as well do it now and get a jump on 2020.

Another great episode.
Brent Dearmon is that dude, man. Just oozes confidence in everything he does, says and calls on the field.
Daylon Charlot with a fiery, emotional speech at half time of Texas game. Talked about tired of losing and needing to cut out mistakes. And Kansas seemed to be a different team after the break.
Hopefully carries over to this week.

Re: Miles to Go Thread
Basically halfway through the year and I thought it'd be good to say that this Miles To Go has been nothing but extraordinary. This is a professional thing, doesn't seem to hinder on the efforts of the team and gives you an even more in-depth look than what I would have thought when it was announced in July or whenever that was.
Kudos to Long and Miles for giving this the OK.

Re: Miles to Go Thread
Damn if that dude couldn't have missed that kick or KU blocked it!
Best episode by far. I never doubt that these young men don't want it but to see the raw emotion and passion from Daylon, Carter and AP that means this team is 100% committed. I wish that this could be shown to every Jayhawk fan who might be on the fence about showing up on Saturday for the game. These guys care and we as fans / alumni should be supporting them.
Perhaps we might be a victim of the moment but you can't help but believe big things are about to be in store for Dearmon. My goodness the players feed off of that energy and confidence. I'm positive that will hold the same for when he is sitting in a recruits living room.
We have talked about moral victories and how they don't reflect in the W and L column but the measuring stick for KU football is different. This program hasn't had this type of positive momentum since 2008 and I truly believe is only going to lead to a brighter future.
