Reading that transcript, it sounds very much like it was dictated by Trump himself.

Would a leader of another country say these types of things?:

IMHO talk of impeachment should not be based on news reporting, rather be based on the documents and an audio of the phone call. I don't trust the WH issued "transcript".

Based on historic protocol, there is no recording (at least on our side) and there is no verbatim transcript.

If the whistleblower report is "disturbing" only in the same sense that the call report is, then this will be a tough sell.

My guess is that the whistleblower report raises issues that cannot be proven one way or another and that will, thus, necessitate further investigation. Sasse is trying to set the table for this investigation to be conducted as standard Congressional oversight rather than under the label of "impeachment." He is up for election next November, after all, and having "iMPeAChmEnT" hanging over the campaign would make him rightly nervous.

Speaking on background to a Republican congressional source who has direct knowledge of the whistleblower report, he says it is really bad. He says the GOP can attack it as partisan because, in his words, “this is written by someone who does not like the President” but also that “regardless, the whistleblower is credible.”

According to the source, the report “paints a clear path to impeachment” with enough information that Democrats will be able to make appropriate document requests and subpoena witnesses for a focused effort.
