Right now my 2020 voting strategy is “I will vote for the waste paper basket before I vote for any of these nincompoops that are still in the running.”

Maybe a mystery candidate will emerge.

MICHHAWK wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2019 11:37 am Thank goodness for those third parties. 2020 perfect year for Ron Paul or Ross Perot or whoever the Green Party or libertarian candidates will be.

There is always 2024.
Sad thing is, if Perot was running today, he could win. Things have changed since the early 1990s. I would absolutely vote Perot if he was running now.
1) Sure Perot could win today. Highly doubtful but possible. He could also get less votes than Ronald McDonald if he ran. We will never know.
2) Indeed things have changed since the early 90s. Not sure what they have to do with Perot getting elected in 2020 and not in 1992 - other than different candidates he would be running against. The fact that he received almost 20 million votes in 92 is astonishing to me.
3) Of course you would vote for Perot if he was running now. (Gutter gives an eyeroll and a head shake). Same running mate as in 92? You put the crazy of 2020 Trump, Sanders, Biden, and Warren together and you get Admiral Stockdale. Have you ever taken in to consideration who a Presidential candidate's running mate is/was?
4) What exactly are/were you so enamored with Perot about?
Perot is and was the only person seriously talking about the national debt. Would have been easier to solve back then, but now we have a mess that is pretty much impossible to solve. Also, he's not democrat or republican, which is highly appealing these days. Every idiot thinks you have to be one or the other.

I did like Perot's running mate. Him, not so much.

Every new administration fixes up some messes and messes up some fixes.

There are going to be a lot of messes to clean up after this administration leaves office. It's gonna be like buying a house from a fraternity.

The national debt was cured in 1999. Perot had nothing to do with it.

I assume your response was to my #4?
Obviously I have no idea how the national debt directly affects you (and to what degree) and/or why it would be the primary reason you would have voted for Perot. Maybe the majority of the 19+ million who voted for him actually gave a damn about the national debt. Who knows?
As far as what he WAS (he's dead) not what he is, he was basically a Republican. Pretty much a self proclaimed one who voted Republican from 2000 till his death.

The debt is going to affect the future generations as we kick the can down the road. Just because it's not a problem for me right now doesn't mean it's going to not be a huge problem for our children. I know you probably don't care about our children, but I do.

Poor Sanders today was reported as having a heart attack. The guy needs to hang it up. 78 + heart attack + most stressful job in America... not a good combination.

In 2016 the Republicans voted against their own best interest, and against what passed for their principles ("family values" anyone?), for an absolutely incompetent buffoon. At least Perot is a lot more accomplished than said buffoon. So, why not!

I remember all the hand wringing over Ike having a 12.8 billion dollar deficit.
Governments don't run like your check book.
1 trillion a year in good times is crazy though.

A whole lotta shit going down right now that will affect future generations.
I care about "our" children - and I care about our planet. I fully admit I don't do all that much about it. Kind of like our government. Shame on us!

I am in agreement with you about Bernie. Would probably be in his best interest/s to hang it up/

I agree with both of your points. Because I care about my children and their children is why I don't support the current GOP orgy of spending to buy votes, their constant slashing of funding for education, their shameless ignorance about climate change, their associated raping of our children's planet for the almighty dollar, their willful ignorance about gun control and the GOP's attempts at forcing their morality be what defines certain medical decisions that my daughters may some day need to make.

I said after the last debate that Bernie looked really bad--his face looked red and blotchy--but didn't expect that his health problems would show up so soon.
