Charlie Moore spelled Dotson at PG and Grimes didn't.
That's how bad Grimes was at PG, but he and his camp seem to think he should have played there over Dotson all season.
Eye roll.
Charlie Moore was awful.
Grimes played 27.4mpg.
Moore played 13.1mpg.
Our team was so bad and had so few quality players that Moore had to be out there somewhere and he's not capable of playing anywhere but PG due to size and speed (or lack thereof).
I think we both know Grimes is better than Moore at any position.
If you can't understand why it's very problematic for Grimes as a PG prospect that it's a fact that he never got spell minutes at PG when our backup PG was not worth playing, then I don't know what to tell you.
I know you've taken on the role of board contrarian, but at least make a little bit of sense. You asked for a reason why fans don't like Grimes, one was given, and then you cite some weird irrelevant point about Self being a big boy. Now you're defending Grimes's lack of PG minutes because the other backup PG couldn't play in any other position? It's OK to agree with other posters from time to time.
I'm not being contrarian with you (at least not on purpose so I'm sorry if it seems that way, so let's just avoid going down that road). I could say you're doing the same.
How many players did we have last year that actually played minutes in the backcourt? Moore HAD to play somewhere when people needed a rest.
Dotson played over 32mpg, so nobody other than him played "PG" much, but like we say every year there's not a ton of difference between our guards, we can play multiple "PGs" at once.
Grimes wasn't a dynamic playmaker that warranted being a "PG" in that sense....his camp wants people to think he can be. I don't think he'll prove them right, but he's going to get his chance.
What I don't get, is did Grime's camp expect Dotson to stand around a chuck 3s instead? I don't understand why it had to be 1 or the other. Both could have played that role while on the court with each other. We move the ball plenty, our guards have plenty of opportunities to create for others...I'd also be curious to see advanced stats on how many minutes Moore was on the floor WITHOUT Dotson, and also it seemed Garrett was sort of utilized as a point forward type role when Dotson was out occasionally, but again we'd need advanced stats that aren't readily available to truly analyze those scenarios.
But come on man, Grimes is a better "PG" than Moore. Moore sucked.
