Any KU coaching changes?

Post by nu_bronco »

Since the season is in the books. Do you think Les Miles fires or hires any assistant coaches? Or do you think staff remains the same and that time will help build the team?

I think everyone stays put.

No one was good enough for a bigger program to come pluck them away.

I also think the current staff sees the commitment to the football program now and they want to stick around. Plus, get to coach under Les some more.

I can't stress enough how important it is for the staff and support staff to stick around again into year 2. So many strides were made outside of the results on Saturdays that if the plan continues, results on Saturday will start to lean KUs way more.

Side note, it'd be cool to see Miles To Go continue this winter and spring.

Agree. Most of the problems with this year's team was personnel on the field, not on the sideline.

I agree. Curious what other people thought.

It seems there is always movement, but it would seem to be at the position coach level for this staff.

Maybe Hull moves on.

Three names to watch:

1. Bowen - I believe KU might move on from him
2. Hull - He might move on from KU
3. E. Jones - Recent chatter about him being linked to Texas jobs

Texas better get on out of here now.

Long needs to make Jones a priority, if he hasn’t done that already. He has a legit pipeline back to Dallas and was instrumental in a couple of guys coming here.

Another name to watch is Frank Wilson who was just let go from UTSA. He was the lead recruiter for Les during his days at LSU.

Listening to talk sports radio, it was pointed the similarity between this year's final stats and last year's.
Basically the end results are that there was no improvement and no decline from Beaty year 4 and Miles year 1. I was expecting some improvement, because I assumed Miles and staff would do a better job of "coaching up" the players. I realize the defense side had less talent this year, but I believe the offense had more talent. I'm hoping that recruiting by this staff will make the improvements we all long for.

Bowen haters still out and about. He's probably why we didn't improve, right?

1. Nothing personal against him. Wish it would work out for him but if happens it happens.
2. I think we should try very hard to keep him. I think his recruiting is helping. Just need more of it.
3. Same as 2.

I would be happy to see the staff stay together for a minimum of 3 years, would prefer longer as I believe the continuity would help recruiting and coaching up the players. I don't think anyone saw enough from on field performances to make me think the staff will get raid. The recruiting aspect for Hull and Jones would be my concern.

Looks like Jones is staying at KU for another year and received an extension.

Guess this was already posted in the 2020 offseason thread. Still good news.

That one seems out of left field. I'm assuming his ties to Texas?

Good resume as a position coach. When he was CB coach at Fresno State, ranked 2nd in passing defense.

Mixed bag last year as New Mexico's DC. But impressive that KU can get a young guy like that who was a DC and have him take a step down and be a position coach.

But yeah, the Texas thing is big. Losing Bowen stinks as far as Kansas recruiting goes, but he also couldn't get guys from Kansas, specifically Free State to go here lately. They've been going west to Manhattan. Not a good look for Bowen.

I've cracked a lot of shit about Bowen in the past but he genuinely loved (loves) KU. The problem being he was part of or a good reason why KU finished off the worst decade in program history. You factor in the insane amount of money he was making it was only a matter of time before he was going to be let go.

This is a relatively young staff at just about every position.

Bowen wasn't great, was here way too long, and I'm not sad to see him go by any means.

That said, I don't know why any KU alum would have come back to coach here in the past decade. There was almost no good to come of it for them.

Clint should want -- and deserves -- to be remembered as a player rather than a coach.

And now that he's moved on, we can do that. Cuz he was a helluva player.
