who ya got?
Re: who ya got?
“People saw it as service and sacrifice and heritage” seems about as sincere as the founding fathers when they said, “all men are created equal”
Re: who ya got?
It's not something I would have said.
But then, I'm not in the position of trying to explain how and why every Governor of South Carolina before me, dating all the way back to Strom Thurmond (including 9 Democrats and 4 Republicans), had that flag flying over the capitol, until I decided to remove it.

Well she couldn’t actually come out and say “I was the first governor in 13 administrations who had ambitions for national office and needed some cover to at least pretend not to always pander to the white supremacists who make up the bulk of my party’s base“ now, could she? This quote is actually the undoing whatever good she got out of removal of the flag!DCHawk1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 3:03 pm It's not something I would have said.

Yeah, maybe five people who have no idea of historical reality see it as such.....“people” also see the earth being flat, Saddam Hussain having WMD, Ukraine interfering in our elections, Obama being born in Kenya and Trump having absolute immunity to do anything ! I’m sure an equal number of people see all sorts of racist symbols through their own whitewash prisms

Tim Scott too, about the white supremacy bit.
Also, Haley herself. Weird white-supremacists.

Re: who ya got?
Got to love it that DC proclaims daily that he's an expert on "retail politics." He spends a good deal of time on these forums condescending to everyone else that we all lack his impressive sagacity about politics.
But, when necessary, DC pretends that he doesn't know that Haley's statement was scripted by others, focused grouped, and rehearsed and memorized so that DC and the rest of the Right Wing echo chamber could parse it endlessly. And pretend that it wasn't simply the latest example of Southern Dog Whistle politics at its finest.
I believe that another South Carolinian, Lee Atwater explained the latter.

Re: who ya got?
I can only imagine many strategists realize that Nikki Haley’s voice may be just a little too shrill for many GOP voters...

Re: who ya got?
Would Hillary have allowed Saudis to murder American naval officers on American soil and defended the murderous dictator of Saudi Arabia without demanding that the Saudis investigate?
I don't think so.
