Lots holding off until February.

Still some guys to sign this afternoon, but the big fish will sign in February. Which stinks to wait another couple of months, but a lot can still change.

Most of our top guys not signing sucks and is nerve-wracking. The underwhelming part is not getting those guys signed today and having only 1 surprise signing.

Overall, though, still great that we signed several high school players and there's not much to complain about. It just felt like it would be a home run day, and it was not. We'll end up ranked in the bottom 2-3 classes of the league--was hoping for about #5.

Although they did pick up a good player in Johnquai Lewis. Good athlete. Had offers from Michigan, Nebraska, NC State, Syracuse and Utah.

Can play Corner or WR. Probably fits more as a Corner, but able to play both at a high level. 84th best athlete in 2020 class.

Coleman flipped to TCU.

KU picked up a 3 star QB from California. 59th best dual threat guy. 6ft 206. Obviously a good runner and a decent enough passer. Won’t compete for probably a couple of seasons. But a good player to redshirt in case KU goes after grad QB which they seem to be doing frequently.

I don't follow this as closely as some (well, most here), but it seems like a class of 18+ high school kids is pretty good news.

High school kids are very good for this program.

Need high school kids to build the program.

The QB was a Middle Tennessee State commit. Hoping Miles sees something everyone else is missing.

And Bryce Torneden was a FCS commit. All-Big 12 safety.

Aqib Talib had like 3 offers before picking Kansas. All Pro corner.

Todd Redding had 2 offers and chose between KU and Duke. (Duke was horrific back then) Best KU QB ever.

Recruiting is all about finding diamonds in the rough along with getting top guys. This QB certainly qualifies as a potential diamond in the rough.

One thing Miles focuses on and he mentioned during the Miles To Go series. He wants full evaluations and tape on players. Previous staff just had highlights that they evaluated on. He wants to see things that happen when the play is away from them, how they react to teammates’ plays, how they embrace added pressure and their character on top of being a good player.

This QB had all service academy programs wanting him which means good character and leader. He’s also got a good arm and can run. Pro style QBs are going away. Need to be accurate on short throws and run in Dearmon’s offense, and Daniels can do both.

All good stuff except for Coleman. QB 100 percent Dearmon. We have due to inefficiencies of roster had way to many juco recruits. Last year was the lowest 3 in like a decade with most years in double digits which is a disaster. Get HS kids and redshirt as many as you can to build depth takes three-four years.
We need Franks for next year and RS QB then we roll.

You get it.

Redshirt most, if not all of these incoming kids. Get a grad transfer to hold over at the QB position because no one is probably ready as of right now to lead the team in 2020.

I don't think there has to be an NFL player in this class to make it successful. We are in desperate need of a basic foundation. Ideally, you can get to a place (by the time these kids are RS JRs and SRs) where the program is attracting more immediate-impact types.

Exactly. Just pointing out some of the best players KU has had recently were 2-3 star types who didn't have a ton of interest.

This is a great class, make no mistake. Yesterday itself was just a B+ instead of an A+, that's all.

The overall recruiting can definitely end up an A+ and it's going to end up no less than an A-, anyway.

Just filling the 25 allotted 25 scholarships is a ridiculous turnaround from Beaty. Throw in that it's very heavy HS, things are a changin'.

Rivals is still clocking us in as top 50 which is fine if we can actually do something with that talent.

Again like I mentioned a bit up in the thread. I watched some of the Miles To Go again the past few nights, and when Miles first got the job, he talked with the one guy in charge of recruiting and basically was told all they did to evaluate recruits was pull up the HUDL clips that the player/high school put together to make them good.

Miles and his recruiting staff are now getting full game films and even practice film to evaluate what the guys they are going after are like when things may not be 100% peachy all the time and how they interact with teammates. Like I said about the QB Daniels, all the Service Academy programs wanted him, which shows the high amount of character, leadership and integrity that he has. His season highlights may not be top notch all the time, but maybe he's a solid player who is a great leader and can take over a lockerroom and make the team his on the field.

That's one thing with Miles that is different than previous staffs since Mangino. He gets to the nitty gritty details on EVERYTHING. Dearmon had a presser to where he stated clearly what he wants in his offensive players and they went out and got those guys.

Times are a changin. It's exciting. And even further proof that Miles was the right guy for this program at the right time.

247 also has them as 46th. Finding good talent. Now need to hold on to the guys that haven't signed until February and flip maybe a good recruit or 2.

The hard part, and most important part, is now developing guys. Seems we might be a little recruiter heavy on the staff, so we'll see how that plays out. I don't know how Jones is as a position coach. Hull is basically non-existent when it comes to coaching. Jury is much out on Jackson. Mike Lee regressed under Bowen.

Mangino knew the development was more important and assembled a great staff--something he learned under Snyder.

Glad we have Les, Drake seems like he could be a rising star, Ekeler has been around long enough, Meadows has a tough job but some experience.

The Number One issue, by far, was the roster numbers and talent--now we need to get to Step 2.

All very good points. But it also kind of goes with the old saying of something like more Jimmies and Joes and less Xs and Os. Got to get guys that can make plays when things don’t go the way they’re supposed to go. They’ve done a good job of that.

Now to develop them. Staff has done a pretty good job, it seems of developing.

I personally think Jones is a star. Not only for recruiting but for development. Parchment was kind of a throw in at WR from his JUCO with Naylor (who was ranked higher) and Parchment was a beast. Lassiter turned from a punt returner to a damn good slot guy who could make plays after he gets the ball. Charlot made some great strides this year. Stephon Robinson is going to be a damn stud next year, best deep ball threat KU has.
