I'm not happy we lost either but I am usually less "pissed" when we lose to a good coach/team.
As I often say after taking a deep breath when we have a regular season loss, "Oh well, on to the next".

Yes, they will be "fine". They are "fine" now. "Fine" is making the Sweet Sixteen.

I agree they will win a lot of games this year. The Big 12 isnt that good and Self will once again have them earning a 1 or a 2 seed, then we'll be "surprised" when they lose to a 3-5 seed.
You're making Doyel look like a glass half full guy
The good news is that I dont think anyone else is great so if we get a few breaks or if we see some improvements in our issues then maybe we make a Final Four run. I didnt think the 18 team looked like a Final Four team when they were giving up 95 points at home to Arizona State around this time of year. So who knows.

Per Newell:

“ Bill Self brought this up unprompted in postgame. Said KU needed to foul there to make Nova play in half-court. Said his team made a lot of mental mistakes, and some of those are difficult to fix in practice settings.”

Ouch.

Sounds about right. We will get more reps in tight road games (4 of the next 6 on the road) to work on this. Hopefully this team is capable of learning from their mistakes. Some teams do, others just keep repeating them.

MG status unknown, but initial outlook is good.

IMO I don’t think we see him until the conference opener.

Name two starting PGs in the Self era that you would take after Devon Dotson. Nadiir Tharpe and.... who else? He is blessed with elite speed but there really isnt any skill that I would consider him to be that good at. Below average passer, turnover prone and below average three point shooter.

Seems like a great kid and is overall scoring well for us because he can just blow past 90% of the guys that try to cover him. But he has so many holes in his game that I cannot see what it is that he would do in an NBA game next season to warrant leaving after this season. Bummer that it's going to happen anyways; he might be a really good college player next season.
Even for a meltdown thread, this is a bit much. Worst case, Dotson will be the fifth best on-ball guy Self has had here (Mason, Collins, Graham, Taylor). Chalmers wasn't an on-ball guy for purposes of this post.

Dot is a sophomore, Frank wasn't great his 2cd year either.

And neither was Dtae.

As good as this team can be they still have some growing pains to go through. Beating Nova would have been nice but my expectations for this team are to be playing in April and if that means taking lumps in December then so be it.

You just names the vast majority of PGs under Self. Miles, then Robinson, then Collins, then Taylor, then Tharpe, then Mason, then Graham then Dotson.

So I was right unless I forgot a few guys. One year of just Elijah I guess but I dont count that.

The only guy on that list above that I would put below Dotson is Tharpe. If you put Selby on the list then I'd have him below Dotson as well.

Frank wasn't planning to be headed to the NBA after his 2nd year.

Planning and doing is a whole different ball game.
Dot is far and away my favorite player but his current game has zero translation to the league.

And you think that matters? He'll look great at workouts and then be gone. Such a bummer.

Except that if he hits three bunnies today, everything looks different. I’m as pissed as anyone, and this one is squarely on his shoulders, but we’re still talking about a guy who had - by a long ways - the best frosh PG season under Bill. That’s not nothing.

I don’t know what he’ll do after this season. He has the physical attributes and reputation to support leaving early in a way that Mason and Graham (and even Taylor and Collins) did not. I have no doubt whatsoever that if he stayed four years he’d be a player of year type guy.

If he finishes fifth in line behind those guys, it’s only because he didn’t stay long enough to keep rising.

pretty good meltdown you guys.

the archetypal first road game of the year on the east coast has been brutal to us before. Like we've been blown out. And this time around, down a starter, we still only loose by 1.

What's the word Garrett's ankle, anyway?

dotson looked rough last night at the end. but for fucks sake he played the whole game it felt. we dont have a back up point guard with garrett hurt. maybe the dude was just exhausted? he has a lot he can improve on but he is already a very talented and skilled player. short memory around here. look at what he did in the maui

if dotson played 4 years he would probably go down as the best guard bill self has ever had. he had a better freshman year than any other point guard. and sophomore year too so far even with the villanova loss.

before the nova game dotson was averaging 20 pts 5 assists. weve only had one other guy ever do that. senior frank. who was national player of the year

And why can't we just compliment Villanova on a good win. Their defense on the last drive was great.
