He was the right dude at exactly the right time. Five years earlier and he's Dr. J. Five years later and he's Kobe. MJ was the perfect star to happen when the NBA was exiting the short-shorts wearing Bird era just as hip hop, modern advertising and ESPN were exploding and the NBA was watering itself down with way too many expansion teams.

The Bulls were a phenomenon at the time. We just dont do that stuff any more as fans. Social media makes it too easy to create vocal haters and a desire of others to simply be the guy that doesnt support what the media chokes down our throat as "the best".

If MJ played now, people would like him a LOT less.

I guess I was just leery of the dynasty at the time. In a some ways it’s just not as much fun to cheer for Goliath.

And I hated the fact that no matter how much I wanted to see him loose, he never did.

In this way my hatred of lebron is so much different. That’s mostly cuz he seems like a live laugh love entitled tool who is way too prone to loosing. (If we had a hypothetical MJ vs. Bron finals matchup, who you really gonna put your money on?)

But fwiw I’ve chilled on the bron hate too.

I should also mention that in the 90s I was a young Pistons fan growing up in Michigan. There was a regional rivalry element as well.

I loved bird, magic, and MJ. I do think that bird is severely underrated, and magic probably is slightly underrated too.

And my hate for lebron has little to do with my vote for MJ as goat. Its more about him being a little whiny bitch.
