911 was by Sunnis, not Shiites. That's remarkably ignorant of the VP.

This shit again?

OF COURSE, the Sunnis and the Shiites have worked together against a common enemy.

Erdogan and Khamenei are today aligned against the Arab powers.

It happens.

THIS is a perfect response: totally devoid of fact, ignorant of background, and completely emotional.

We have troops in Iraq. They are there because they were sent there by...wait for it...Barack Obama.

Of the roughly 5000 American forces in Iraq, 3500 were sent by Obama to help restore stability and defend the government against ISIS (after he removed the bulk of US troops in 2010 and 2011). Trump removed 1000 troops from Syria and you spent the next several weeks shitting little rings around yourself. He hasn't removed troops from Iraq and now you're shitting little rings around yourself because he's chosen to defend them against aggression from a foreign state.

Separate and distinct from the question of whether or not the killing of Soleimani was the best military move at this point, you people are fucking insane, driven completely nuts by your hatred of Trump.
why only mention Obama?

how many troops did dubya send?

(don’t answer, i already checked)
Why only mention Obama? Because he sent the troops that are there now?

AFTER he withdrew the troops Bush sent?

If you bother to keep reading, you'll see this sentence: "And you'll note here that Goldman lays ultimate blame where it rightly belongs, on the Bush administration's shoulders."

Thanks for playing?
yes, i’m guilty of replying to a post before reading through the thread’s entirety...oops

the post i quoted read like you were blaming Obama for the current situation, when in fact it seems like he did the best he could...first withdrawing troops and then realizing the instability such an action caused

i’m probably wrong tho

I know. I was being a wise ass.

This is NOT Obama's fault, and I didn't mean to suggest that it was. But the troops in Iraq were NOT sent there by Trump, which was my point.

As soon as Khomeini said "no you can't", if you weren't expecting this, you haven't paid attention to Trump.

I'm not saying that's the only factor, but a not unlikely catalyst.
As rocket attacks against U.S. bases in Iraq intensified over the last two months, the president had granted the Pentagon extraordinary latitude: The U.S. military had his permission to kill Soleimani the next time it had an opportunity to do so, according to a senior defense official who was not authorized to speak on the record.

“We had authority before the strike to take that action,” said the official, who wouldn’t say how recently Trump gave the Pentagon that authorization—whether it was hours, weeks or even months earlier....

Former national security adviser John Bolton, a vocal advocate of regime change in Iran, described the killing of Soleimani as “long in the making.”

“We’ve known every minute of every day where Soleimani is for years—there’s no moment of any given day where five or six intelligence agencies can’t tell you where he is,” a Republican foreign policy hand said. “It’s been one of his talking points: The Americans can find me any time, they just don’t dare hit me.”...

State Department officials summoned the Iraqi ambassador to the U.S. for a meeting Thursday afternoon, according to a person familiar with the situation. It was not clear what exactly was discussed.

“I think it’s been in the works for a while because I don’t think it was a last-minute thing,” a Middle Eastern official said. “I don’t think they were like, ‘Oh we just found him, let’s take him out.' I think it was to mitigate an action that was actually in the works.”

“Tracking Solemani was likely something that was being done from at least May, when the major stream of threats emerged,” a former defense official said....

Pompeo held several phone calls with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent weeks, suggesting that Israel was not surprised by the strike against Soleimani.

Before departing on Thursday morning for Greece, Netanyahu told reporters in Israel, “We are in continuous contact with our great friend the U.S., including my conversation yesterday afternoon. I want to make one thing clear: We fully support all of the steps that the U.S. has taken as well as its full right to defend itself and its citizens.”...

When does the White House start issuing fake stories about imminent threats faced by the US if they didnt take this action so they can try to avoid a war crimes charge? Because really, what we just did was state sanctioned murder.

Let's see, political realities, and not the deflections that DC offers in place of any real understanding of any kind of politics is that 9/11 was a Saudi financed, Saudi run operation that the Royal Family looked the other way on as long as it kept them on the throne.

And that both Trump and Netanyahu needed this to happen right now to deflect from the outing of their personal corruption.

Or...and just bear with me a minute...there was another predicate, like, maybe an assault on the American embassy.

I mean...you do know what the title of the thread is, right?

So what's the point of the Dan McLaughlin red marked up piece that says nothing?

Given the fact that the Trump administration always projects and accuses people of exactly what they've done themselves, Pence's statement would just as likely indicate that Jared ordered Soleimani eliminated because his close buddy Crown Prince MBS wanted it. After all, Soleimani and co. had helped the Yemeni Houthis who'd been blowing up oil infrastructure and tankers in Saudi Arabia. Killing a few people, or as we know from 9/11, a few thousand people, no big deal, but blasting the world's largest refinery--that just won't do.
