I live in an area with a lot of young people in the military and know a bunch who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and unlike you, do not want to see them killed or maimed because Donald Trump fears being removed from office.

Agree 100%. Part of my disappointment with President Trump is that he campaigned on promises not to continue doing things like this. I do not like it and don't see justification for it.

TDub wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2020 12:48 pm Ok. And who says I dont take it seriously? I think we just entered a fairly difficult situation. Where did I even say anything about it? I took issue with people calling our military and intelligence incompetent.

I must have missed all the days you've been here lambasting Donald Trump for dissing our military and intelligence. You were here criticising him for saying:
"Of course, we should have captured Osama bin Laden long before we did," about Admiral McRaven.

or: "Dumbest human being" he'd ever seen, and that he was a "nut job.” about Lindsey Graham

You were here railing at Trump as you falsely did at me when he said:
"You know who he is? He's a failed general. He was the general fighting ISIS. I would say he hasn't done so well, right?" General John Allen

Missed your criticism of:
Telling Myeshia, widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, Johnson said the call with Trump made her cry, and that Trump told her that her husband "knew what he had signed up for.”

And you agreed with Trump?
Calling James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence, "a lying machine.”

You must have really liked it when Trump called Rep. Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania "Lamb the Sham,"
as I don't remember you stepping up with your criticism of Donald.

Guess you approved of Trump saying that retired four-star General Stanley McChrystal, who led US forces in Afghanistan between 2009 and 2010, was fired "like a dog." And was known for his "Big, dumb mouth."

Also approved of calling Rep. Seth Moulton, who served as a marine in Iraq, "You remain a frickin' coward"

And you seem to have really liked:
Trump saying that Jim Mattis, a retired four-star general, was "the world's most overrated general," after also saying Mattis wasn't tough enough.

Most recently, I missed your criticism of Trump for saying that Bill Taylor was a Never Trumper, which he has said are "Human Scum."

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a Purple Heart recipient, was the most recent former-soldier to face criticism from Trump. Where was your rant when Trump called him a Never Trumper, which means Human Scum.

And of course there was that explanation of how he didn't respect John McCain because he didn't like those who'd been captured.

You don't seem to care about criticism of our military or intelligence community, only criticism of the known coward, Commander Bone Spurs.

Have you stopped to consider how Americans would react if another country deposed our democratically elected leader and installed a repressive dictator, The Shah of Iran, like MI6 and the CIA did to Iran in 1953? Call me cynical, but I'd guess Americans would be pissed, and eager to kick them out at the first opportunity:

Declassified Documents Reveal CIA Role In 1953 Iranian Coup

...Young CIA agents used suitcases full of cash to destabilize the regime. "They managed to buy newspaper editors, to buy hoodlums, they organized rallies in different cities, they created a fake communist party in order to create trouble," Bahari said. Still, they almost failed.

According to Bahari, after Mossadegh and his allies thwarted the first coup attempt Aug. 15, 1953, officials in Washington wanted to pull the plug on the spy operation. They sent a telegram to Kermit Roosevelt Junior, the CIA officer leading the overthrow and grandson of Theodore Roosevelt, ordering him to cease and desist. "But Kermit Roosevelt just says 'I never heard that' and he carries on the operation and he succeeds," Bahari said.

Four days later, a second coup attempt was successful.

"It's kind of left a bitter taste in Iranians' mouths," says Bahari. "It's created a very good excuse for the Iranian government to exploit the genuine grievances of the Iranian people."

That's the best answer yet.

Eisenhower was a baddie, therefore Iran can do whatever the fuck it wants (including the hostages, the Beirut Marine barracks, Khobar Towers, the AMIA bombing, Iraqi IEDs, arming the Iraqi Shiite militias, providing the firepower for Assad, etc., etc. ad nauseam) in perpetuity.

Fair is fair.

The dude that was killed was a General in the Iranian army. Big deal, somebody just got promoted.
Oh and we stirred up another Mid-East crisis.

Give them ours and call it even.

On the News Hour on Friday night, during the Shields and Brooks segment, David Brooks observed that you cannot replace talent. “The dude” was their most talented terrorist. There will be backlash, but I’m glad that guy is gone.

A commentator on CNN on Friday night hypothecated that if there were terror plans in the works by this guy and we knew about and where this guy was and did nothing, what would the reaction be if a terror plot was carried out and this prior knowledge was known with no action taken?

I hate the Executive branch’s political arm. This isn’t why.

Did he also say that Israel had planned to "assassinate" Soleimani in 2015, until the Obama administration intervened on his behalf?

Iran has filed a complaint against the US strike with the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary General. I wonder if the US will now have to actually prove whether their alleged intelligence of imminent attack is true to avoid serious problems.

Oh, and Iraqi Parliament has voted to work towards expelling all foreign troops from the country.
