I often wonder why teams who feel they are "elite" choose to hire a guy who was fired from his previous job. Why not get a guy who is a "hot commodity"?
Maybe it's not a bad hire per se but I feel it's far from being a great one.
McCarthy was fired mostly because of bad personnel moves and because he o one wanted to admit that Rodgers is on the down side of his career. He did an excellent job in Green Bay and is a good hire.
Kiss of death.

McCarthy was far from excellent in Green Bay no matter what you think of the Cowboys hire.

A third-order negative impact of Spencer Ware's injury...if I recall correctly, he was the scout QB for situations like Watson/Jackson. Unfortunate to not have him.

Yeah excellent is a stretch. But he was really good.

He just got stale at the end of his run. Rodgers got fed up with him, and the team will always pick a star QB over the coach.

He'll get them to the playoffs and beyond for a few years.

He had a stretch where he went to the playoffs in 9 of 10 seasons, winning 10+ in 8 of those seasons.

They "went stale" when they started the next season 4-1 before Rodgers broke his collarbone and they lost 8 of the last 11.

But OK. Glad to see you bought their PR story that things "went stale and Rodgers and him had conflicts". That was a lot easier to sell than "Rodgers is kinda a dick and has regressed since his collarbone injury but we're stuck with his bloated contract."

Oh very true that Rodgers is a dick.

But owners want to please star player because they are much harder to replace than coaches.

Bringing someone else's PR story? That is exactly what you did here:

"McCarthy was fired mostly because of bad personnel moves and because he o one wanted to admit that Rodgers is on the down side of his career."

Were those his bad personnel moves or Ted Thompson's? Because he is about to enter a situation where he has zero control over that. Jerry has the final say.

Eh, who put that out as PR? Green Bay's defense went in the toilet, their run game was "led" by guys who should be back ups in Williams and Montgomery, they let Jordy Nelson go a year too early and Rodgers passer rating dropped ten points lower than his worst career season the year after his injury, only to drop even lower this season.

So they fire McCarthy mainly because it's easier and cheaper to get a new good coach than a new good QB and everyone says "why do you want a coach that got fired from his last job" and assumes it's because he didnt do a good job when in fact, by every measurable metric in existence, he did.

I believe it's a mix of both.
I think McCarthy will do better with the Dallas roster, if it stays intact, than Garrett did.

Maybe there will be at least one full day of coverage about teams that are actually still playing this year.

Sincerely,

Bitter fan of team that doesn’t get much attention.

I think Henry should hold-out after his next game.

I guess I should state that I know he wouldn’t be holding out since he’ll be out of contract in March.

The real question is what is Henry worth and can you pay Tanny and Henry? Henry is 26 and unless you are AD RB 1s tend to start on the down hill the closer they get to 30.

The way that Henry runs / plays reminds me a lot of Larry Johnson and we all know how that ended. Speaking of LJ do we talk enough about his two back to back seasons in 05-06.

2006 - 416 (insane) and 1789 with 17 TDs

Ya, they have room to pay both...but not Logan Ryan too most likely.

It’s definitely nerve-racking thinking of prospects knowing oh RBs turn quick and come in droves year-to-year.

Just read a stat that Ravens blitz on almost 49% of QB dropbacks....if Titans line is functioning properly, and they use play-action correctly, this is gonna create second-level room for Henry at least once at some point.
