1988.
Did we blame Iran?

No, there was quite a bit of backlash at home though. Most of the blame was put on the captain of the ship and the commanding officers in the US Navy for being "overly aggressive in an already tense environment" (sound familiar?)

The united states also issued a .diplomatic statement accepting (most) responsibility and regret for the incident.

The US did try to lay some of the blame on iran initially for allowing an airliner to fly that low in an active hostile zone.

**** note. This also didnt happen inside our own country where the military and the airport should have communication about what is in the airspace.

This wasn't a flight that got mistakenly off course and ended up in a potential hostile area. This was a plane that FUCKING TOOK OFF FROM IMAM FUCKING KHOMEINI AIRFUCKINGPORT and was shot down two FUCKING minutes later.

Good God.

That's the most morally deranged thing I've ever read.
Only if you live in a fantasy world.

What did you expect Iran to do in response to our actions?
Not shoot down civilian airliners?

Seems kinda like a minimum expectation, but, you know, tRUmp!

I have given him credit he deserves for the response to the missiles, so no, not because Trump.

I also see a strong argument that even considering the plane, the strike was worth it.

But you're acting like you expected nothing negative to come out of the assassination, which is odd to say the least.

No I'm not. I've never said anything of the sort.

I just think it's morally reprehensible to blame anyone other than the Mullahs for the downing of the airliner.

You're making a "root causes" argument, which, in moral terms, flatly denies agency and releases those responsible for the totality of blame.

If you take your argument to the logical conclusion, I would guess that would mean that blame falls squarely on the shoulders of Cyrus the Great. He shoulda fuckin' known what would happen when he went about taking over all of the known world! The bastard!

I've written and deleted three responses to this. I am not convinced, but my brain is too tired to explain it. I don't think it's as simple as you're making it out to be.

Howsabout we keep it within the last 100 years or so and blame Churchill and Truman? With a little BP thrown in for good measure.

Y'all seem not to have been listening to Trump's explanations. There can be only one person at fault--the Kenyan.

It's like the old 3 Letters joke where the CEO is told that in a crisis to open a envelope that contains the message, "Blame your predecessor." It's like Trump changed that to say, "There are a 1,000 letters in the drawer" they all say "Blame Obama."

Passing that off as your own?

Or did you steal that from your landlord's kids reddit account?

Yup.

And the irony of not knowing how to spell that particular word.

And the whole apple don’t fall far from the tree element of it.

Man, I’m surprised some of you guys take me so seriously.
