Re: AP/Kenpom 2019-20
Being from the area and watching them, they're a good team. Bunch of young guys and they go deep in their bench. They go about 9-10 deep and no one really plays above 30 minutes. Never been Marshall's deal. He loves to play with depth on his team, compared to that of Bill who likes to go about 7-8 deep.
Only loss was to West Va that was close until the last parts of 2nd half. Front court has some good players, but their guards are the ones that make them go and they have a few pretty good ones. They'll be a 6 seed or so in the tournament and have some success there.
Now I will say this, and it's not popular here, but Marshall isn't that bad of a guy. Met him a few times. Remembers my name. Always kind, respectful, listens well and does a good job in big settings with lots of people. He's had some dumb comments to media and that will happen with everyone. But his wife and family are much different. His wife is a hothead and her kids take after that, big time. He's intense, but has a much more level temperament then his wife and kids do.

Contrary to some belief here, it's true. The schedule has been tough and will always be tough.

I don't think anyone said the schedule was not strong, just boring. Which, especially the AFH slate, it is.
Playing decent mid-major teams is good for SOS equation, but still boring for fans.

Don't think many high major teams want to come to AFH. Only time is for Big12/SEC thing and that's really about it.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 1:02 pm I don't think anyone said the schedule was not strong, just boring. Which, especially the AFH slate, it is.

The series with Kentucky/Michigan State/Arizona(When they were good) coming to AFH and then KU going back to that place the next year is gone. There's enough tournaments, classics, challenges that more than make up for an exciting home slate.

I think playing mid-major teams can provide a unique challenge.
It's Kansas basketball, it's going to be fun regardless ( even your UMKC blowouts ) - but give me a good mid-major instead of a shitty power 5.
And with the no. 1 strength of schedule, you already have the resume to win enough without risking a few losses that could knock you from a 1 seed to a 2.

There are home and home's outside of SEC challenge, but it seems this is a year where we were away for those (Nova, Stanford).NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 1:13 pmDon't think many high major teams want to come to AFH. Not criticizing the scheduling philosophy (although it will be itneresting how it goes without Keating), it's just a year where the schedule, especially AFH, isn't very exciting. Not getting UK and then Michigan State shitting the bed weakened it.
Re: AP/Kenpom 2019-20
I can agree with AFH.
Can't with schedule.
Duke. BYU. Dayton turned out to be super exciting ( they are very good ). Nova ( oof ).
I think Eastern Tenn State is a smart schedule.
Colorado is a pretty good team too.
I think the AFH schedule was just missing a team like Michigan or Zona but you have to schedule a home and away for something like that ( and ours was Nova so we were away ).

I will never forgive him for calling out KU back in 2012 for refusing to give WSU a home-and-home deal. His whole “KU is scared of us” schtick pissed me off. The gym I was a member of at the time gave out free “Play Angry” themed T-shirts and the owner got offended when I immediately tossed mine in the trash. I told him I don’t support mid-major teams and he about blew an O-ring trying to convince me that WSU was NOT a mid-major.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 12:27 pm Being from the area and watching them, they're a good team. Yes, I should also mention that WSU fans are in the same category as Marshall's family. They have bigger little brother syndrome than what kstate fans do.HouseDivided wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 3:11 pmI will never forgive him for calling out KU back in 2012 for refusing to give WSU a home-and-home deal. But yeah that 2012 thing was not good. And I think looking back, he wished he didn't do it. He got caught up in the moment of frustration that he hears from the fan base and donors.
But people here in Wichita area are literally insane about Shockers. They were quiet this year, but the noise has ratcheted back up this year with them being pretty good. The whole KU thing has kind of fallen off though. Not as many care as they did when they were coming up in 2012 and that era. They were definitely feeding off the everyone disrepects us card and they took it out on KU, but now they are fairly self sustaining in a pretty good basketball conference for their size, so the noise has quieted down with KU/WSU series talk.

Re: AP/Kenpom 2019-20
Knocking KU out of the tourney may have something to do with the quieting down. I blame myself. The times h at I have seen KU pl in the tourney since I have live here ('12 and '18) they went to the Final Four. The year they lost to WSU, I didnt go. Sorry guys.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 3:21 pmYes, I should also mention that WSU fans are in the same category as Marshall's family. Re: AP/Kenpom 2019-20
My son's high school team played a game at Koch Arena earlier this year and they wore WSU-themed uniforms. One of the grandparents of a teammate, who apparently has no clothing that is not WSU-themed, and who is always giving me a hard time about my KU gear - was about to have a stroke from joy and grabbed my arm, gushing "They look JUST like the Shocks!", to which I responded sarcastically, "Yeah, and they beat KU that one time!" The guy totally missed the irony and gave me a high five and sauntered off in a glorious stupor.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 3:21 pmYes, I should also mention that WSU fans are in the same category as Marshall's family. Re: AP/Kenpom 2019-20
Then there's Kansas, which has three losses -- but is atop most metric-based rankings. There has been constant discussion about how there's no dominant team in college basketball this season, but this Jayhawks' adjusted efficiency margin would rank in the top three in all but two seasons in the KenPom era (since 2001-02). They would be considered the No. 1 team in a couple of those seasons, too. Kansas leads the nation in Quadrant 1 wins, too.
