KC Chiefs v Tennessee
Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
I think O'Brien knew what was up - Chiefs were going to score on that defense eventually.
He pulled out all the tricks he could - he probably thought he needed points on most drives - and he was right.
The reward for getting that is momentum.
Chiefs crowd hyped from a TD and a 3 and out - then you convert a play like that?
I wouldn't have done it - but I can see why he tried.

Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
It’s a terrible move in combination with not going for it on 4th and a couple feet.
Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
Either way, it'll end up being another data point in how exactly a coach with >.500 record gets fired (which will happen this year or next). The AFC is absolutely stacked with great quarterbacks (obviously Mahomes and Jackson now, with Burrow and others to come, and who knows what Mayfield ends up being).pdub wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 11:41 am I think O'Brien knew what was up - Chiefs were going to score on that defense eventually.

Houston's got a great one, too, but his prime (which may be short) will be wasted by O'Brien.
Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
And they go for it on 4th and a couple feet and get stopped and everyone is talking about that.
I get that you play the numbers game but hindsight of course.
Chiefs were 10 point favorites - Houston didn't have the secondary to stop Mahomes - O'Brien made some wrong calls - but I think the Chiefs likely would have won anyways.

Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
You might be right, but he was so incredibly awful in his decision making.
Everything was going against the Chiefs. Kicking that FG gave the Chiefs hope. They were drowning, that FG gave them a breath of air and they were able to swim from that point on.
The Texans could have and should have stepped on their throats. But he got conservative and for some reason relied on his defense to make stops, which was horrendous.
Also, he was going to punt in the 4th quarter. Down 17. With 11 minutes to go. Until Watson reminded him it was the 4th quarter. Wasted a timeout and still didn't convert.
He did everything wrong that an underdog coach should do.

Fuck yeah. Go Titans. More in a bit, I’m busy at work right now.
Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
Agreed. O'Brien knew he needed 50 points to win so he took a risk. And he was right, they needed 52 to win. It just didnt work for him. Thankfully Sorenson did his job and kept an eye on the guy he was assigned to keep an eye on and executed an excellent open field tackle. The Houston guy just made it a little too obvious that he was doing something out of the ordinary and it triggered an alarm in Sorenson's brain that something may be going on and he was ready.pdub wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 11:30 am I just don't agree.
He makes that and he totally kills any momentum from the previous touchdown.
Dirty Dan saved the day - the play was there - people would be praising the 'guts' that call took.
Saying O'Brien blew the game is completely downplaying the fact we scored 51 points - as if a 4th down conversion totally caused the 51 points ( or rather 44 points ).
Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
So in hind sight everyone knew the Chiefs were gonna flip the game like that?
Nah. He shit the bed with play calling. And the Chiefs were incredible.

Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
And you won’t be. But if you looking at Tennessee as 9-7 team, you not looking at whole story.
2-4 when Mariota benched. 7-3 (now 9-3) since. Their playoff game planning much different than what was seen much of year. It’s been amazing to watch how methodical and precise they’ve been, both on offense and defense.
This said, Arrowhead is a different environment altogether, and similarly to my thoughts going into Ravens game, just stay in it.

Fourth road game, Fish. @ Texans to end season....granted, Texans were resting everyone (I got laughed at for loving that), but Henry was still ran and ran and ran that game.jfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 10:58 amI'd add that they're at home, and that they're not playing their third (road) game in as many weeks, to the list of fundamental advantages. While Arrowhead isn't (statistically) the advantage some would like, home field counts.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 10:53 am Those little details are almost always overstated. You could also argue why it would be better to have the second game. Or, better yet, why it just doesn't even matter. Win you're in the Super Bowl. Lose, you're not.
The Chiefs are in a great position to win on Sunday because they have the best QB in the league and the better team on the field that day.
Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
I hope there is one more Chiefs-Titans weirdness coming (in Titans favor, of course)...last few meetings have been beyond absurd.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 11:05 am
It's a frickin' home game against the 6 seed to go to the Super Bowl. It's going to take some Chiefs-y creativity to fuck it up.
Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
Titans lost at home to the Texans 24-21 about a month ago.
Reid should take a look at that game and see what worked.

Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
Texans were up early, Titans came back and then Texans scored almost immediately to go up 21-14. Were up 24-24 and Titans scored junk TD to make it a 3 point game.
Texans exposes middle of field. Fuller was healthy, which spread field and Texans converted a lot of 2nd and 3rd and long situations by spreading field and finding soft spot it middle. Hyde rushed 26 times, which kept Rhythm in middle for both teams. Ebbed and flowed, and better skills position players were difference. Chiefs could easily do the same. Lots of screens would replace runs, though, probably. But, Watson typically runs side to side, where Mahomes is vertical, which is vastly different. Bottom line, Chiefs are a beast of a team, and I’m excited to see how Vrabel plans for them, and if it can be successful.
Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
The opening line is 7.5.
I think 7 is more appropriate if you were going to put money down.
Chiefs shoulda won by 8 in Tennessee and that was with one starting offensive lineman and Mahomes just back from a knee injury.
They have something going with Henry so you have to be wary about early mistakes/jitters/rust like the last game -- but if the Chiefs go up 10+, I feel less nervous about a comeback than I did yesterday with a guy like Deshaun Watson and a wide receiver core of Hopkins and Fuller.

If the Chiefs should have won by 8 in Tennessee...and now they're healthier...and now they're at home...wouldn't a bigger number be "appropriate"?pdub wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 4:52 pm The opening line is 7.5.

In a vacuum that doesn’t take into account how Tennessee has been playing or matches up with Chiefs now, yes.jfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 5:21 pmIf the Chiefs should have won by 8 in Tennessee...and now they're healthier...and now they're at home...wouldn't a bigger number be "appropriate"?pdub wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 4:52 pm The opening line is 7.5.

Re: KC Chiefs v Tennessee
Mahomes played about a perfect game against Texas. It was the best game I ever saw from a QB. I agree with Nick Wright that he only threw one bad pass. If you blitz Mahomes, he will kill you by throwing to exact spots. I think a light is on in his head which negates any other offense’s best effort. Running Henry might just waste time the Titans need. I think it is time to watch a lot of Miami Dolphin Tannehill tape.
