You know the funny thing is that Kennedy was only able to maintain that pretense because the press actively and purposefully covered for him. There are probably a dozen accounts from White House reporters at the time about how they knew how completely fucked up he was, but they made sure no one ever found out. I mean...he tried to hook up with Helen Thomas, for crying out loud.

Johnson literally engaged in dick-size comparisons, waving ol' "Jumbo" (as he called it) around for everyone to see.

And, Clinton...well...cigars, heads of state, spinach dip, oral-to-anal-contact, Yasir Arafat...

Meanwhile, his wife hired a bouncer to be her head of security and he somehow got his fat fingers on the FBI files of 800 Republicans.

Trump appears more ridiculous and more vile than all the rest because everyone, everywhere, even in his own administration, is overtly, openly, and proudly hostile to him. That speaks to his character, no doubt. But it doesn't mean he's especially unique.

Fox News isn't the ENTIRE FUCKING WHITE HOUSE PRESS CORPS. You get that, right? THE ENTIRE FUCKING PRESS CORPS covered for Kennedy, who was either loaded or fucking or both almost ALL of the time.

Is Trump comparable to JFK? Nope. Not in any way. Kennedy's drug addiction -- which was an open secret, not a "rumor" -- started with his attempt to kill the literal pain he was in all of the time because of the injuries he suffered in the war. And we all know that Trump wouldn't allow his dainty bone-spurred feet touch a combat boot.

But here's the thing: if you're going to couch your criticism of Trump in the language of historical uniqueness -- "unlike any other," "destroying the dignity that existed," "first and worst" -- then you have to be ABLE to back that up. You can't get your panties in a twist if, after you declare "he's the only one evar to do this," someone responds with actual, factual, historical information demonstrating that you're wrong. Snowflake.

The rhetoric surrounding Trump is so absurd and hyperbolic, that even smart, sane people don't realize it.

Now, to repeat myself, the history doesn't negate or legitimize Trump's actions. It's his own damn fault he got caught, and now he has to deal with it.

Ousdahl, It was a different era and one that someone like DC really can't even comprehend, judging from his occasional comments to Geezer. I grew up in a neighborhood of new, small houses--all financed with VA loans. All the fathers were WWII era vets, except those that had served in Korea.

John Kennedy was a war hero--the press covered for him in a different way. But, Helen Thomas, seriously? I was a child, but I remember how men felt about Marilyn Monroe. Besides, if JFK's extra marital activities were exposed, then would the whataboutism extend to FDR or Ike? That just wasn't very likely in the 1950s.

But, lawsie, comparing John Kennedy to Donald Trump is really jumping the shark. However, Kennedy had that charisma thing that reading his excoriation of Trudeau, or bizarrely, his mother, and his ongoing obsession with Bill Clinton's sex life, DC really hates.
