I think the modern jayhawk represents sds’ true spirit of, ‘I’m happy, just playing, jovial’ bird.

Don't the wings go over the eyes?
Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Told ya the stool was funny. But there's a few politically correct in this thread who lie and pretend it isn't.Gqcolorado wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 4:00 pmIn case you haven’t seen...DCHawk1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 3:58 pmIt's so far beyond his comprehension.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 3:03 pm

Re: OFFICIAL FIGHT FALL OUT (OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL)
There is a difference between saying a grown ass man picking up a stool is funny and a caricature of a bird is. But I digress. You do you.
Re: OFFICIAL FIGHT FALL OUT (OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL)
Just my opinion, and I'm not even upset about the incident tbh, some won't see this (the actual incident, not the bird) as funny because they attended Kansas and take great pride in the University. Therefor things that negatively impact the reputation of the school won't be taken lightly.

I guess this is the right place to put this. Jay Bilas has a great wrap up of the whole thing. He's also the first person from ESPN that appears to have gotten the sequence of events correct.

You don't like Bilas?
Re: OFFICIAL FIGHT FALL OUT (OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL)
I don't always agree with Bilas, but he is sincere and tries to be honest.

Thanks for the link. Bilas had a decent take.
Please, I implore you to be reasonable...

A for sure worse penalty would have been no suspension, but immediate transfer to Mizzou.Soklous wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 5:43 pmTraditionKU wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 5:34 pm wait, Bilas isn’t just talking out his ass to get a hot take?

When they see the KSU guy respond to DeSousa's stepover, they are OK with because they think like all these "bro, did you even play sports or get in a fight" dopes on here. They relate to it. They at least claim that they would have done the same thing.
No one relates to picking up a damn bar stool and wielding it as a potential weapon. The vast majority of regular folks see that and go "whoa, that's over the line".

Twocoach: this dinner date is going very well.
Twocoachsigother: yeah, we should go be frisky.
Twocoach: not on our itinerary. Sorry, maybe next time we’ll plan it that way.

I was going to post the link to Bilas' piece as well, but I am glad to see that ULD beat me to it. I suppose it would be too easy to attribute the difference between his take and that of Forde to the respective schools they attended. I was going to say "....respective schools where they received their education" but then in Forde's case that would be a false claim!
In spike of being a Dookie, Bilas is my favorite basketball analyst. His article did nothing to alter that opinion.

Re: OFFICIAL FIGHT FALL OUT (OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL)
Nah.
What actually happens is the hypothalamus activates two systems: the sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal-cortical system. The sympathetic nervous system uses nerve pathways to initiate reactions in the body, and the adrenal-cortical system uses the bloodstream.
When the hypothalamus tells the sympathetic nervous system to kick into gear, the overall effect is that the body speeds up, tenses up and becomes generally very alert.
The sympathetic nervous system sends out impulses to glands and smooth muscles and tells the adrenal medulla to release epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline) into the bloodstream. These "stress hormones" cause several changes in the body, including an increase in heart rate and blood pressure.
At the same time, the hypothalamus releases corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) into the pituitary gland, activating the adrenal-cortical system. The pituitary gland (a major endocrine gland) secretes the hormone ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone). ACTH moves through the bloodstream and ultimately arrives at the adrenal cortex, where it activates the release of approximately 30 different hormones that get the body prepared to deal with a threat.
The sudden flood of epinephrine, norepinephrine and dozens of other hormones causes changes in the body that include:
--heart rate and blood pressure increase
--pupils dilate to take in as much light as possible
--veins in skin constrict to send more blood to major muscle groups (responsible for the "chill" sometimes associated with fear -- less blood in the skin to keep it warm)
blood-glucose level increases
--muscles tense up, energized by adrenaline and glucose (responsible for goose bumps -- when tiny muscles attached to each hair on surface of skin tense up, the hairs are forced upright, pulling skin with them)
--smooth muscle relaxes in order to allow more oxygen into the lungs
--nonessential systems (like digestion and immune system) shut down to allow more energy for emergency functions
--trouble focusing on small tasks (brain is directed to focus only on big picture in order to determine where threat is coming from).
"Choice" has very little to do with it. Or at least choice has very little to do with it in the immediate sense. One can, of course, choose to practice recognizing the onset of this change in brain chemistry. One can choose to practice techniques for controlling and reversing these changes once that recognition is made. And one can choose to practice, through literally thousands of repetitions, altering one's instinctual procedural memory to increase the likelihood of a desired outcome.
Spontaneously choosing not to allow "the heat of the moment" to affect you, however, is bullshit.
