Man, ski culture is so goofy.

Is there any other hobby that’s like, “oh severe weather warnings and they’re saying to avoid traveling there? Let’s go travel there! High avalanche risk?? Well let’s go put ourselves in avalanche terrain!!”

The resort here has a snow stake, where you can see the depth of how much snow accumulates. The numbers on the stake go up to 18 inches. By the end of the day you couldn’t see the numbers any more.

Actually i did say its the landlords issue. But hes not on here posting about it (that i know of). My point is talking about it on here isnt helping you solve the situation. But there are many options available that WILL help your situation. I was just suggesting you utilize one of those options.

thanks bro. I wasn't necessarily posting it cuz I sought help solving the situation. We took care of it, and it wasn't a big deal in that regard. I suppose I just saw humor in the situation, one of the quirks of living in Neverland a.k.a. a ski town. There are deadbeat landlords everywhere, and for any number of reasons, but "so I can play in the snow" has to be among the more unique ones. It's also a potent illustration of the talking point that there's something about skiing that makes people loose their minds.

I hope I don't come across as whining, or like I was expecting someone to take care of life for me. I'm doing a serviceable job for myself in that regard. Please, take me with a grain of salt. The vast majority of my posts are intended whimsically, just for giggles, and not as some serious appeal. I don't mean to rub you or anyone the wrong way, but if I do, it's prob not worth more than a shrug and a chuckle.

The thing is, I think you and I may have a lot more in common than we realize. We're both outdoorsmen who would rather seek the peace of a cabin in the woods than put up with the bright shiny bullshit of the rest of the world. I'd rather seek and share that common ground than just be petty adversaries.

100,000+ cars trying to get to the same 6 places. Up a mountain in a blizzard. There's gotta be some better option (but if I knew it, I'd take it to the billion dollar ideas thread.) Wait, I DO know it - some sort of public transport?*

There was some ride sharing app tailored to getting to/from ski resorts in CO, but it just recently got shut down on some legal technicality. I've cynically wondered if the oil companies have successfully lobbied against it, cuz they'd rather have 6 figures worth of cars burning gas every weekend.

If you live in Denver and wanna ski on a Saturday, you gotta leave no later than 6am. Earlier if it's a snow day. Otherwise, you're sitting in traffic. Same getting back down the hill that afternoon.

*there's also the option that's summed up in a popular mountain town bumper sticker: "Next weekend, stay in Denver." But that's a whole different discussion.

I never said I hated or even disliked you. I think we are more alike than it seems, that goes for most across the board here (though, not all, thats a fact). But I think thats whats frustrating to me, as an adult (particularly an outdoorsman) id like to think that you are capable of handling your own business. I dont see the point of posting about it on here. If it was one time id understand but its daily- thats what i dont get. But thats just me and its just a message board, so whatever you want, none of this matters anyway.

I've heard it for years...they want to build a rail from Denver to Glenwood Springs through the I-70 corridor. From my understanding, the idea has been shut down several times.

if imagine the denver metro would do it before SLC, but...SLC was one of the first and best at public transit (Frontrunner heavy rail, light rail, and buses...and now electric bikes and scooters)

it’d be great if done right, but i cringe at the thought of the amount of disturbance to the canyons and wildlife such an effort would entail

The train runs along much of the Fraser and Colorado rivers here, and it’s crazy how many dead deer you’ll see along the tracks.

The last five years I lived in Denver I didn't ski and only went to the mtns during the summer. Just not worth it to deal with the traffic and long lines at the resorts.

Though supposedly, numbers are down as a whole in the ski industry. Boomers are dying off, and they’re the ones with discretionary income. After lodging, dining out for every meal, and day tickets and rentals for the whole fam, it’s not hard to drop 5 figures on the family ski trip.


The millennials who like to ski generally just buy the season pass, own their own skis, make a breakfast burrito at home before they leave Denver at 6am, and either drive home that night or crash on my futon. A millennial’s entire season costs less than one of y’all’s long weekend of family skiing.

Then there’s the whole fact that so many millennials aren’t interested, even in CO. It blows my mind how many peeps put up with the hassles and costs of living here just to sit on their asses playing video games.

Bro you wanna go ski with me and the homies? “Nah man, too fat.”

A day pass to vail is over $200 now. And damn near 3 hours to/from Denver, if the traffic is moving, which it isn’t.
