next soccer question
Re: next soccer question
Wait. Cascadia...Children’s is better than Providence?
Re: next soccer question
I wish we had a minor league team up here (I’m in NOCO). Have population base for it, for sure. Minor league hockey real close (KC Blades level competition). It’s ok, but not baseball. Now that I don’t live a mile from Coors Field, getting there seems like a pain in ass. That’s part of my appreciation of Dick’s. It’s a drive, but really easy. I’m starting to turn curmudgeon.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 2:32 pm been to the minor league baseball games here, the Bees, and the mountains on a sunny spring or early summer day make it a great experience, regardless of the quality of play on the field

The atmosphere and beer are better at Providence, but the actual stadium is better in KC

Re: next soccer question
I know this is dumb, but took my 8 year old to a indoor soccer game in Wichita. Played a KC developmental team (KC a division up) and it was fun. High paced, physical quick decisions, not much break in the action.
If I lived in KC, I would go watch KC play considering they play at the highest level of indoor soccer. Wichita was that back in the 90s. Bunch of skilled foreigners playing and they were really good.

Re: next soccer question
I’m actually really curious what this means. Is it like saying stadium x is better than Wrigley, but Wrigley has better atmosphere? (Minus all the fuckwads that go to the games).
I want to go to Portland for a game. That and Minnesota actually are my next two most desired venues after DC trip.
Re: next soccer question
Providence is fantastic and the best atmosphere in North America for a soccer game. The local food and beer options are amazing. But the stadium itself is very old. Long lines, small bathrooms, crowded as fuck, right in the middle if the cesspool of downtown Portland. Bums everywhere, no parking, a nightmare to get in and out of. (still safe though).Gqcolorado wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 7:45 amI’m actually really curious what this means. Is it like saying stadium x is better than Wrigley, but Wrigley has better atmosphere? KC’s stadium is just really well designed. It should be a benchmark for any new soccer specific stadium being built in the 20,000 to 35,000 range. The only thing that sucks about the stadium is the location
Re: next soccer question
Was doing Lyft few years ago, and I’d go to games and then get a pick up at DSGP.
By far best fan interaction in car was after Portland game. Knew game without being American footie fan douche. Maybe I just line the Portland brand of Hipster.

If you think Children's Mercy's location is bad, just wait until you get a load of Allianz in St. Paul. Yikes.Gqcolorado wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 7:45 amI’m actually really curious what this means. Re: next soccer question
Great facility. But the location is weird. Even if you don't like the outlet mall aesthetic of Children's Mercy, at least you understand what they're going for. The same is not true of Allianz, which would be like if you dropped a KC stadium in, like, midtown.
Re: next soccer question
A stadium in midtown could be great if it was positioned correctly
Re: next soccer question
I misread your post too, overlooking location......Nashville stadium is gonna suffer same fate. Again, a problem of not quite having enough money to react to what might be in 10 years.
Re: next soccer question
How are the KC Wizards gonna do this season?
They signed a big time scorer from Mexico in Alan Pulido.
Expensive and different from what Vermes and company has done in the past ( shedding good players/finding friendly contracts ) -- but exciting.

Man that Concacaf Champions League took so much out of them.
I think they'll be good. Finish top 6 in the West. The West is much weaker than the East.
That defense has to improve, I don't know if they did enough on the back end to help tremendously, but I also don't think they'll allow 67 goals (2nd worst in MLS) again this year.

Should be improved everywhere.
The problem will be that there's a hangover from Chiefs/Jayhawks Championships and Chiefs starting back up at end of the season.

MLS is such a much better product than it was 10 years ago it’s amazing.
Excited to see Audi Field Saturday.
