No. I am suggesting that if you already feel that we have poor quality politicians at this salary point then you REALLY won't like who is willing to do the same job for almost $50k less money.lobster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 8:32 pmAre you suggesting we have high caliber individuals in congress right now? You like who is representing you now?twocoach wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 7:41 pmI feel like I am in the Twilight Show.
You get what you pay for. Pay dogshit salaries with terrible benefits and you will not like the caliber of individual who is willing to be OK with such compensation. And you certainly wont like them representing you in Congress.

Otherwise, I fear that Illi won't understand the point you're trying to make.

Our best and brightest rarely grow up wanting to be politicians.
What we need are politicians who are driven to the field by their inner desire to serve their country and lead the citizens...not people chasing a fat paycheck. No wonder our politicians don't vote against big Pharma or insurance companies or the NRA.

Re: AOC
Politicians may or may not be overpaid. I dunno.
But Members of Congress must maintain TWO residences, one in their home district and one in or around Washington DC, a very expensive city. At $174,000, with homes in NYC and DC, AOC is NOT living high on the hog.
Also, my post post (Milton Keeeens) was meant to showcase her confidence, despite not knowing what she's talking about, not her ignorance. I'd guess she's no smarter and no dumber than most of her colleagues.
Also, this:

Confidence, despite not know what the hell one is talking about, could certainly be one definition of dumb.DCHawk1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 11:37 am Politicians may or may not be overpaid. I dunno.

Chasing a fat check has been good enough for GOP voters ("who cares what that scumbag Trump does, look at my retirement account!") so it's pretty rich of folks here to claim that they should take a huge pay cut and work because of the glory of serving the (self serving) public.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 10:09 am Our best and brightest rarely grow up wanting to be politicians.

Spare me.
Re: AOC
They are certainly living a lot higher on the hog than most in the DC area. There is no objective way to prove someone is overpaid, but I'm certain we are not getting a good return on our investment with these idiots.DCHawk1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 11:37 am Politicians may or may not be overpaid. My understanding is there are too many challengers in the race against AOC to be able to unseat her easily. Unless she's done zip with her congressional office and angered the district people who care that their congresswoman do their casework more than looking pretty on TV.

Props to Cabrera for trying, but after suffering through her for years on CNBC, I was very happy when she left. I hope and expect AOC to crush her.DCHawk1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 11:37 am Politicians may or may not be overpaid. I dunno.

OuTRage and accusations of racism and misogyny are the crazy cat lady versions of logic. If you don’t go along with that, you’re a racist, a misogynist, and a lowlife who didn’t matriculate from Mount Oread.
