NCAA 19-20
Re: NCAA 19-20
If we win the next 4 con, do we just send Teahan to KC alone?
Re: NCAA 19-20
Tournament should be 1 game. KU VS. Baylor. The rest are pretenders.
Sad thing is I believe that KU VS. Baylor will not be the championship final.

Re: NCAA 19-20
KU might be unanimous #1 tomorrow.
Re: NCAA 19-20
Every other team to receive 1st place votes last week lost.
But figure some michhawk might give a vote to Dayton or something...

Re: NCAA 19-20
The big 12 tourney is not irrelevant. It's not even that much more irrelevant than the regular season conference race if we're setting the bar for "relevant" that high.

Re: NCAA 19-20
We should mail in the league tourney, again.
Let Drew have it. We will be #1 seed in Indy, because of our fantastic regular season. A conference tourney loss isn't going to change it.
And please let us play Tech and not WVU.

Re: NCAA 19-20
IF we go and win out the rest of the regular season then yep - we're an overall one no matter what happens in KC.
If we can win the B12 tourney playing our guys limited minutes, i'm all for it.
I'd consider playing Dotson and Dok 20 minutes or fewer.
Tristran Enaruna, Christian Braun, Isaiah Moss, David McCormack and whomever of the walkon guards can play point best.

Re: NCAA 19-20
Agree that the Big 12 Tournament (waste of time) should be used to get other guys some playing time. I’d play the normal players the first game and then I’d sit Dok and Dot the rest of them. Don’t take an embarrassing loss in the first round but don’t risk injury to your most important players in a meaningless game.
Re: NCAA 19-20
Keep dreaming. I'll post conference per game minute averages and conference tournament per game minute averages for each player after Dok plays 33min in the conference tourney title game and scores 20pts with 15rebs against Baylor. I'd be willing to bet the minute averages are not much different. This year or historically.

Re: NCAA 19-20
So I just saw something interesting. #1 overall seed picks the first round games and what they want their region to be.
Does KU go to a greater fan base in Houston, or do they go for closer and be in Indy?
I think they’ll choose Houston. Indy has the chance to get the likes of Kentucky, Dayton, etc that won’t be fun to play in a road environment.
Think KU being in Houston might be better for the S16 E8 rounds.

Re: NCAA 19-20
I’ve been assuming Indy for the whole time bc of easier flight and flight times. More drivable, too.
Re: NCAA 19-20
That's dumb. If a team has a fluky season and wins the Big 12 regular season, they get a 3 seed or better (see State, Kansas). If a team has a fluky Big 12 title run, they arent pulling up to a 3 seed unless they were already a 4 seed.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 3:05 pm The big 12 tourney is not irrelevant. Looking at it from the opposite perspective. If KU falls apart and gets third in the regular season, they are dropping to probably a 4 seed. If they drop their first game in KC, they are still a 1 seed.
So yeah, they are different in pretty much every way possible.
Re: NCAA 19-20
I dont want guys playing limited minutes. If they play, they should be playing to try to win. Nobody needs reps wasting time right before the tourney.pdub wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 3:24 pm IF we go and win out the rest of the regular season then yep - we're an overall one no matter what happens in KC.

Of course when they are in there, they are playing to win.
But managing minutes and getting our bench some PT would be what I would do.
I want to win the Big 12 tourney but it's so less important than the regular season and so less important than the NCAA tournament.

So you're basically saying it's all about the NCAA tournament/seeding? Which is fine. I won't argue if that's how you feel. But it still doesn't make the big 12 tournament irrelevant.twocoach wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 7:46 amThat's dumb. My point is that it's NOT all about the NCAA tournament. Although that's definitely the most important part. I think winning conference regular season and conference tournament is also important.
Re: NCAA 19-20
Since the modern tourney era (since 85) KU has been to 9 Final Fours. They only won the conference tourney in 3 of those 9 seasons.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 8:06 amSo you're basically saying it's all about the NCAA tournament/seeding? Which is fine. But they won the conference regular season title in 8 of those 9 seasons.
The stats tell me that failing to win the conference tourney isnt important at all. It's fun to win and I hope we win every game that we play but it hasnt seem to had any negative impact on our season at all. We've actually made the Final Four more in seasons where we failed to win the conference tourney at a much higher rate than in seasons when we did.

Re: NCAA 19-20
Why is there even a conference tournament? The smart guys over at the Ivy League had it right for the longest time. Give your autobid to the conferences best team over the course of the season, who has earned it, instead of a team who wins 3 games in one weekend.
Conference tourneys are nothing more than to rake in more money, but in order to do that they have to make it worth playing. The only people who benefit from them are teams on the bubble.

Re: NCAA 19-20
I still like the thrill of the conference tournaments - because it aligns with the thrill of the NCAA tournament.
It's not the best way to determine the best team so fuck it, let's go all in on this single elimination deal.
Also, as a very likely 1 seed, i'm all for some 12-20 team from Colonial Athletic winning their conference tournament and becoming our 16.
The more ideal tournament would be something like a 48 team tournament, 4 regions, autobids given to 23 regular season conference champs, wildcard for the rest, and the first 4 seeded teams in each region get a bye. 1st round is single elimination.
The rest of the rounds best of 3.
But that's a lot of games for college so you could just apply the same scenario with single elimination but the top 4 teams get that bye.
