Horrible economy, no respect from other countries, gas lines around the block, Iranian hostages made us a laughingstock. Terrible.
He would have had the hostages out if it wasn’t for the traitorous Reaganistas

Yes, a president who actually followed his Christian principles. I'm shocked psych hated him.

And who was perhaps the last to genuinely appeal to what used to be an American value: shared sacrifice in furtherance of collective benefit.
Of course, that noble (but, ultimately, naive) point of view was washed away by Reagan's appeal to American exceptionalism (which, in its way, begat this era of our politics).
Which of course isn't to say, "Carter good, Reagan bad."
Just that Reaganism (and the generally-concurrent rise of conservative talk radio) marked an inflection point.

"Horrible"? That's debatable. Not good - That's not debatable.
There were very good (and important) reasons why Reagan beat him in 1980.

Never said hate. He was a good man and an admirable humanitarian. He was also a terrible POTUS. It’s possible to be bad at something without being a bad person. But you already knew that.

Let’s get this thread back on topic.
Cuz with the passing of Carter, there’s a big question looming:
Who are Dems gonna run in 2028 now?!

The Shah and not handing him over was the crux of the hostage situation. Meantime, Carter equating human rights to foreign policy jump-started the Solidarity movement and sped the end of the Soviet Union. The tear down this wall moment was brought to you by consistent foreign policy from Carter to Reagan regarding Russian expansionism. Carter also okayed development of the F-117A and B-2A low observable projects. A nuclear engineer, he was probably our most intellectually gifted president save for Lincoln and maybe a couple of others. He will always be under-rated, paying for the Iran policies of expediency--turning a blind eye to the Shah's excesses going back decades. Something to consider with other oil monarchies.

You can create a department of education but republican policy has been dismantling education since Carter. See the Fish posts.

Carter’s hostility to Israel was no secret, and it played a part in the failure of his bid for re-election in 1980. Reagan achieved a modern record of 40% of the Jewish vote not so much because of his appeal but because of Carter’s unpopularity—something that Republicans have failed to remember as they’ve sought in vain to replicate that feat.
In fact, Carter blamed the Jews for his defeat. His hard feelings about that colored his post-presidency as he began a decades-long effort to promote Palestinian statehood and to smear Israel. He was not the only person to be wrong about the necessity for a two-state solution, but few matched the virulence with which he assailed Israel, and especially its American supporters, for their refusal to listen to his consistently bad advice.

Nice strawman.
