Two parents really helps avoid the grocery store kid problem.
Wegmans grocery store had a nice Kids Place to drop your kid for free while grocery shopping. It was great!! Some of the best cute little kid homemade Christmas ornaments we put on our tree every year were made in the Wegmans Kids Place. Sad day when kiddo turned 8 and aged out of the Kids Place. By then, self control was not a big deal.

Sounds like a target rich environment for a pederast.

Hen House in KC had something like this. It was open enough so that everyone could see everything but closed off enough to keep the kiddos corralled.

Kids are great. Expensive and all time consuming. These are all things everyone knows....people need to stop complaining about everything and take responsibility for their choices.
Can you tell I have teenage daughters?
Who were bored even as you were writing this.

Was gonna put this in y’all’s tourist thread, but let’s discuss here!
So how young is too young to leave kids unattended?
Just had a guest loose his shit on the phone cuz he tried to book a 4 hour daycare for his kids while he’s out on a 5 hour fishing trip.
We asked, who can pick your kids up after the daycare? We have to have an adult come get them.
Oh I figured I’d just let them wander around y’all’s resort and kill time on their own til I’m back. I’ll give them a room key in case they want to go to the room.
The kids are 8 and 10.
sooo parent of the year award orrr?

Some kids would be fine and some wouldn't.

We leave our soon to be 8 year old at home by himself for no more than 20 minutes. By age 10, we’ll probably let him be on his own a while longer.

so perhaps the better question is, how young is too young for a resort or daycare to end their custody of the kids in and just turn 'em looose?
As a matter of policy, the child care should be cool with telling kids they're on their own and to not do anything stupid until their dad comes back?
if those kids go get kicked by a horse, or fall into the creek and get hypothermic, or get into some peanut M&M's and have a reaction or whatever, you really think the dad's gonna come back and just say, welp kids will be kids!

Your child care service cannot just let the kids out without an adult with them.

By the time we had a baby last year (and screwed everything up), our then-10 and 8-year old could be left alone for long enough to go get dinner or run errands, etc. The 10-year-old would be good for much longer than that.
That said - we live in a very close-knit neighborhood (including a lot of family close by), so there was not a lot that could truly go
wrong. I'd feel very different in a different neighborhood, or in an environment without neighbors nearby.

Was out doing touristy things shopping at touristy shops the other day and a little kid was sprinting through the store. He was headed straight for an area of the aisle where I think he figured i'd have moved on from ( or maybe he wasn't even thinking ) before he got there at his speed. I hadn't and didn't make any extra effort to move/dodge.
Kid knocks into me and he stumbles over.
Gets right back up and back to sprinting around the room.
Mom makes an effort from the other end of the store, "stop running".
Good effort mom.

^^^
Dad’s at the counter asking about zip lines while his kid runs at large around the shop. Kid runs up next to the counter and grabs a bottle of sunscreen off a display and somehow manages to knock over the whole display, sending dozens of bottles of sunscreen across the room.
Dad turns to me and says, could y’all clean that up?
Good effort dad!

88% of the time, it really is my dream job.
There’s just that 2% of asshole guests and/or their asshole kids that can stink it up.
And the other 10% is the management.

I’d have guessed the other 10% is preying on your co-workers.

The Donald Trump of fishing guides.
Can you imagine if trump lied to a girl claiming to be an artist just to trick her into doing a nude portrait?

Hey man, my drawings may suck but at least it was consensual.
But to tell the truth, it’s been a real bad dry spell, even amongst the coworkers. Tbh I could really use a wingman.
