Maybe expanded courts, but not sure the challenge. Nothing in constitution about court size. Rest I don’t think have much of a path to be challenged.
There aren't. Grassley and Graham are officially moving forward. Even if they get Romney, they likely aren't going to get a 4th. The only chance now is for Kelly to be in place and eligible to vote by the time it is time to vote but the GOP will likely cram this through before then.zsn wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 11:38 pm I sincerely hope that there are four Republican Senators who have the decency and integrity to resist Moscow Mitch’s naked power grab. Also Dems should just expand the Court to 15 justices and seat an additional 6 justices.
Not unreal at all. This is politics as usual.
Not a democratic, but I think anyone who is even remotely religious is unfit for life.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 9:29 am So is the feeling for dems that anyone who is even remotely religious is unfit to sit on the supreme court?
It's sort of Exhibit A that legitimizing government interference with women's reproductive rights is, to so many, worth everything else that comes with it.Cascadia wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 9:42 amNot a democratic, but I think anyone who is even remotely religious is unfit for life.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 9:29 am So is the feeling for dems that anyone who is even remotely religious is unfit to sit on the supreme court?

i’d wager that percentage is higher than anyone realizesIllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 9:59 am Hell i know religious people who have had abortions.
I should clarify (because what I wrote, in context, was not what I meant).IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 9:59 amyou are reasonable, so i will ask you...
You think someone who is religious, even if they are pro-choice, and even if they don't let their personal beliefs impact their rulings on what is "law", is unfit for the supreme court regardless?
I know numerous religious people who are pro-choice. Hell i know religious people who have had abortions.
No. I have no problem with judges being religious in their personal lives. I fully believe that Biden is a MUCH more religious person than Trump for example.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 9:29 am So is the feeling for dems that anyone who is even remotely religious is unfit to sit on the supreme court?

I just dont want their religious beliefs to form what they think should be done with the laws of our nation.
but is that really the reason? or is it because of how they (the parents) would look to their community?IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:23 amWay higher.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:08 ami’d wager that percentage is higher than anyone realizesIllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 9:59 am Hell i know religious people who have had abortions.
I know people in HS who had religious parents, got pregnant, and their parents wanted to make them have an abortion becuase they weren't married (obviously)...pretty fucked up line of thinking. 1 girl chose not to and her parents pretty much disowned her.
It is the old "it's okay if we do it, but not if you do it" type of bullshit.
It is like people think that women are using abortions rather than using contraception. I don't know a single woman who "wants" to have abortions. That has to be a traumatic and difficult choice. It is like the ridiculous religious right (typically) think it is some willy-nilly decision that people don't have emptions about.
It was ALL about that. The parents themselves (how they would look) and had nothing to do with the pregnant daughters. In multiple situations.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:34 ambut is that really the reason? or is it because of how they (the parents) would look to their community?IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:23 amWay higher.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:08 am

Admitting to having an abortion requires admitting to having had sex.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:37 amIt was ALL about that. That is the hypocrisy i can't stand about some super religious people. It almost feels fake as fuck for some of them.
*the "obviously" was about them not being married becuase we were in HS and literally almost nobody gets married at that age anymore*
