He’s legit 6’11 250 with wingspan, but he still almost seems slender

I wonder if he’s got room for another 15 pounds of solid muscle mass that others doods develop the off-season before sophomore year

He doesn't seem slender for a freshman at all. My goodness. He's huge.

Something I'm keeping my eye on (fully understanding Udeh doesn't have much in the way of sample size), is his absurd 6.7 STL+BLK per/40.

For reference, in their best years...

...Embiid was 6.0
...Cole was 6.3
...Withey was 6.8
...Doke was 5.7 (highest in a big-minutes year was 4.4)

I think we can agree (?) those are far-and-away our best 5-spot defensive players over Bill's time here...and Udeh shows signs of being on that level. That is potentially very significant.

Udeh is sneaky quick for a big. I can't believe the speed of his hands sometimes.

Usually it scares me when your center is reaching low to poke balls lose. But he is actually good at it. He has amazing quick hands for a true center

3.0 his sophomore year. He wasn't a very strong individual defender (aside from rebounding).

There's no quick way (I know of) to sort, but a few others...

...Shady (4.9)
...Simien (3.8)
...Kaun (4.0)
...Markieff (3.2)
...Marcus (2.9)

Point is, if you're in the >5.0 range, you're into elite company defensively. And it is incredibly encouraging (in limited time, for sure) that Udeh shows those traits.

For players who average 7+ minutes per game, Udeh is ( LOL ) 6th overall since 1985 in steals per 40, behind Chalmers 06, Jamison 92, Calvin Rayford 93, Nick Bradford 2000 and Jamison 91.

Chalmers 07 and 08 come in 7th and 8th behind Udeh.

No, I don't have a quick way to combine stats ( steals and blocks ) but you can always look here:

One of the highest I could find, for guys averaging 7 min+ per game, in this particular stat ( blocks and steals per minute ) was Hunter Mickelson, who had a combined 7.8 BPM + SPM.

Right, good reference.

I would guess that the historical college performance by, I don't know, RSCI top-50 guys who put up this stat profile as freshmen is really, really, really strong.

No guarantee of anything, of course, but I'm just taking note that Udeh appears to have good outlier qualities on the defensive end. Makes him a very high-floor player, and an incredibly valuable one (put simply, Bill's shit definitely works best when there's an eraser at the back).

Self can't retire now until he sees Udeh all the way through.
He has to be drooling at junior year ( and possibly senior bc of centers in the NBA ) Udeh.

I like where your head's at!

(And, at some point, the all-time wins number will have gravity of its own. Bill simply isn't as far off as it might seem, not when you're adding something close to 30 wins/year.)

KJ and udeh at the 4 and 5. How tough is our defense gonna be next year lol. People gonna hate playing us. Then you've got dajuan too. And I think mj rice has the tools to be a very elite and physical defender too

I'd love to have mccullar back. maybe an NIL deal could bring him back, but I think it's time for him to play professional. his poor shooting will stop him from getting drafted, but he is a really good overall basketball player and is absolutely elite at a few things. There is a place for him in professional basketball somewhere

but lets say that is our hypothetical lineup next year.. holy shit that would be the best all time defense for self

Maybe.

Right now Rice sucks at defense.
