It doesn't look hopeful but finding a middle ground on that contract would be key.

Otherwise we can franchise tag him ( sorry Chris Jones ) next season. Or tag/trade.

Spags and the Chiefs did a good job last season in terms of pressure ( 2nd in total sacks ) and you'd hope that could continue with spending consecutive 1st round picks on the DLine ( Karlaftis 22, Uzomah 23 ).

Hasn't Chris Jones already been fined ~$1m by the NFL? Missed all of pre-season camp and the 1st pre-season game. He's getting paid $20m/year and still has one year left on his contract. Why the hold out now? Wait until the season is over and then negotiate.

Being a Chiefs fan from as far back as I can remember, before a season, I keep thinking, this season is going to crash and burn, as a default. But now you see stuff like this from Mahomes to start the season and you go, oh, yea, we don’t have to be like that anymore.

At least this season we won't have to worry about the host team making it to the Super Bowl.

Yeah, we kind of got conditioned not to expect a lot.

In the mid-late 80s I used to wait and see how much studying I had done by Sunday morning, (and would use the upcoming game as an incentive to make me study because the games weren't sellouts and were blacked out and you couldn't always find a bar where it was on), to decide whether or not I wanted to go to a Chiefs game out at arrowhead. You could always get a ticket, so you didn't need to plan ahead.

I was pretty excited by Joe Delaney. Those weren't great players, but Marv Levy always had some wrinkle. But Marty brought the Chiefs back with defense

NFL was such a deterrent for a procrastinating student ( very much me included ).

I did like Martyball at first. Killer defenses and grind it out offensives.

It got old about the time Marty said that Greg Hill was the real deal and that we were going to pick up chunks of yardage.

Conversely, my kids do not remember a world before Bill Self and Patrick Mahomes.

I remember the day they announced Grbac would be starting over Gannon in the playoffs. Still pisses me off.

I was working at Strawberry Hill Xmas tree farm in West Lawrence and remember hearing the announcement over the radio.
Everyone was pissed.

The only people on the planet who thought it was a good idea were Marty and Carl.

So if Chris Jones holds out, not only does he not get the game checks of 1.1 million, the Chiefs get that off their salary cap AND his franchise tag reduces by a percentage each game missed.

He needs a new agent. This is starting to look like money he will never recoup even if he gets Donald money in the end. If he actually sits half the year is anyone going to pay him really big bucks on his next contract? This game of hardball is about to get self destructive.

Some trash team with tons of cap space will offer him what he wants. It's just a matter of whether he wants to win more or get paid more.
