My guess is that you could break down the majority of conferences in American into negative stereotypes that make it sound like a shitty conference if you tried.

And, back to the main point, i'd rather be 9-1 conference and 11-2 non conference than 8-2 conference and 12-1 non conference, especially considering what our 9-1 would look like.

Can someone describe this mythical scenario where trying to win the Big 12 title comes "at the expense of" KU being in a better position to win a national title? I hear this argument all the time but no one can provide a logical example of what that would ever be. It's usually just assumptions that someone younger didn't get enough minutes and "would have been the difference if he was allowed to develop in Big 12 play with more minutes" which is pure assumption that is rarely likely to have actually been realistic.

Winning the Big 12, especially as good as it is, guarantees a #1 or #2 seed. What more do you want to ensure that KU has the best possible chance to succeed in the tourney besides the highest possible seed? There is zero guarantee that some random bench player would develop into the difference maker on the biggest stage thanks to some extra minutes in Big 12 play. History has shown that getting the best possible seed is the best way to increase your odds of tourney success and there is loads of data to support that.
It does not guarantee a #1 or #2 seed. We were a #4 seed in 2006 and a #3 seed in 2009, and would have been a #3 seed in 2014 if the committee knew Embiid wasn't going to play.

I would like to win everything available to us, but a bad regular season can be completely cured. A conference title, for me, does not take the sting away of losing to UNI, VCU, Villanova, etc. That is how those teams are remembered and judged.
2006: We tied with Texas, who got a #2 seed. The team right behind us got a #12 seed. I'd rather be a #4 seed than a #12 seed.

2009: We tied with Oklahoma, who got a #2 seed. The team 1 game back also got a #3 seed and the teams right behind that got from a 7 to a 9 seed.

2014: The team that won the Big 12 had Joel Embiid on it and that team earned a #2 seed.
So, you agree then that it does not guarantee a #1 or #2 seed?

We could lose the Big 12 this year and be a #1 seed.

The best team in the Big 12 got at least a #2 seed in each of those years so I agree that winning a share of the Big 12 title doesn't guarantee it but being the best team in the Big 12 with the best resume in the conference does.

And it would take an awful lot of things to go exactly right for Kansas to not win a share of the Big 12 title and still earn a #1 seed.

You said the needle is not moved unless KU wins a title.
Needle just sits there, not moving, unless we win 6 games in March/early April.
Otherwise, needle might as well be broken. Call the needle repair man if we make the title game.
I said "my" needle isn't moved.

Imo this season will not receive a grade of "A+" without a natty.

We could win the big12 and make a final 4 and I'd maybe give it an A depending on who we lost to and why....but i am no longer satisfied with conference titles alone until we win another natty. Once we get another natty, then i will adjust my needle again.

Baylor and Kansas both have good enough resumes this year to get 1 seeds without winning a share of the Big 12 regular season.

Not sure if the Big 12 has ever had 2 #1 seeds, but the ACC certainly has, and probably others. Big 12 would have had two in 2020.

Kansas State is just as much a college town as Auburn.
You have no idea what you're talking about.

You could also include over half the SEC as 'religious nutjobs' with that stereotype.

I sometimes open these threads thinking; can a thread as simple as "It Is Game Day" be turned into an argument about completely unrelated bullshit?

To be clear, I want KU to win the big 12. Every season. I also want us to win the big 12 tournament.

And I am far from a natty or bust type person when it comes to grading a season.

But KU (and Self) need another national title. Soon.

With no K and Roy around, and with the worst of the NCAA stuff behind us, we can put college basketball in a choke hold this next decade.

Another angle, but winning nattys does exponentially more for recruiting than winning the big 12 does. Now with no K around, and Adidas being back in the recruiting game for us (more than they have been), we should feast on the recruiting trail. It appears to be starting with this 2022 class with Dick and Rice etc.

And we will be 1 of the 4 options for Bronny James. Hate Lebron or not. We want that for numerous reasons.
