And apparently we’re cool enough with one another to not have to sugar coat it, cuz as a whole, the Empire seems like an incredibly boring place. It’s really not that close to any mountains, or public land, or trails, or water, or ski slopes, or hot springs, or the other attractions that make Colorado an attraction. In terms of development, those seem like big obstacles.

I'll try and take that constructively. Hopefully we overcome.

And in terms of actually living there full time - well heck, not even you want to live there full time, right?

We will commute back and forth to the Springs, but our primary residence will be the Empire. So, wrong mostly.

I’m leaning much more toward somewhere more progressive, a college town perhaps, where I can sit around dive bars with my comrades and talk about overthrowing the system. I think you’ll agree, the Empire probably isn’t the venue for that.

Look up the bloody Espinosas, Jenni Sanchez (Su Voto Cuenta!), Ron Rael (Borderwall as Architecture), Chip Thomas (Painted Desert Project) and there's my friend Max who wants to explore ways to build more equitable communities. We will have to disagree on what is "progressive" I guess. None of those folks sit around bars talking, they were or are too busy doing things to change the system or sticking it to the man.

Just do me one more favor - don’t blame me if and when the Empire faces a staffing shortage cuz all the locals got priced out and no one wants to commute from Alamosa to work at the dollar store.

It's boring. No one is gonna wanna live there that would price the locals out.

Yes, come back and visit. Next time I will show you the hot springs, the public lands, the National Park, the mountains and trails and the water; you never got there on your last visit.

Yeah, from my experience, on the outside it seems like there isn't much to do here.

I did some research on the area for my pro- forma, and there actually are a lot of cool things here in The Empire.

Wife and I went to Great Sand Dunes yesterday, and swam in the hot mineral pool and soaked in the adults only enclosed hot tubs.

Went to Crestone and literally had an amazing energy experience. I had goosebumps the entire time we were there. My wife bought some really cool art.

Yesterday morning, we went and hung out by the Rio Grande, beautiful.

There are many, many more cool things in the SLV, we are going to run out of time.

Also, the people here are really nice, which always means that they truly enjoy living here.

Mrs Plano definitely likes it here.

When you head back out of the valley, if you take 160 East you will go through Fort Garland. On the east edge of town you can turn south on 159 and less than a mile south you will see the Fort Garland Museum on your right which is actually the old fort and barracks. It only takes 30 minutes to walk the whole site. There is a Chip Thomas art installation inside one of the buildings that is really nice, well worth the cost of admission and the time. I highly recommend it.

Overlander, if you are heading south on 285 to leave the valley I can give you directions to the Ute Agency Buildings in Conejos. It is only about a mile off the highway but it is hidden. Another 30 minute or less stop. You won't be able to get inside, but you can see a Chip Thomas installation on the exterior and probably see inside the windows of the slave quarters to see another on the interior. Approach that site with caution, it can fuck with you. If you go that route you should stop at the Chavez Market in Antonito if it is open. They have dried Chimayo chili for sale there. You can also do a drive by of Cano Espinosa's place, he is a descendent of the bloody Espinosas and a crazy visionary artist but a generally good dude. If you see him out in his yard say hello. He will talk your ear off. If he asks you if you want to see his family shrine inside the house, buckle up and do it. I don't think most people get that invite.

The chilis are really good. I used to drive down to Espanola NM to get stuff this good. I can get chimayo, a red that tastes like a smokey chipotle and a caribe and it is 30 minutes away instead of 2 1/2 hours. It's a pretty drive down to Espanola, but sometimes I just want to get more chili.

I just roasted about 5lbs of Hatch chiles. Really good. Still looking for more.

We had a place in Pagosa Springs years ago and Espanola was on our route to visit friends in Santa Fe. We stopped at Romero's to get chili. My friend in Pagosa does a couple of times a year pilgrimage down there for chilis. He is a really good cook and grew up around Questa, I got my chili buying recommendations from him. I buy chili by the pound and bring some back for friends here in KC. I remember eating some good meals in Espanola. El Papagua is the only name I remember.

Joann’s Rancho Casados used to be fantastic, but has really gone down hill and was downright awful when i was there last, maybe 5 years ago

Whats holding it up? Because Government....incredibly inefficient at enacting anything? They created the crisis by allowing a moratorium on evictions and allowing non payment. They worsened the situation by not having a plan for distribution of the manufactured relief funds.
