A bit different than the typical JUCO or HS promising players. Guys who have proved it before. Buffalo C was rated as like the 4th best C in ALL of CFB last year.

Like 15 of those guys were graduating seniors. So it's not that different than a typical year.

Ha! Our expectations are really pretty damned low at this point. Leipold has a clue and really cannot disappoint. I think the Beaty era taught us to keep sharp objects and dangerous meds away from KU fans. We have been slapped all the way to Prairie View and back again. We were all in on never punting to save seven defensive plays.

oh, i get the differences
i was speaking about excitement level in general
maybe it’s just me, and i was more excited about the Les hire than i should have been

The national media and KU did a great job of framing that we were getting a refreshed and recharged Les when in reality it was the almost completely gone and washed up Les. At the time I thought the hire would at least make KU put serious consideration into the football program but even those most high on the hire knew at best Les would probably only make it three or four years. Les, was never going to be the long term solution but a 'place holder' for someone else.

I'm good with how the Les hire turned out.
Did work on the roster, brought in a couple of exciting staff members, made the program attractive to a sitting FBS coach, got Jeff Long fired, and the buyouts are easily absorbed.

The Miles hire is considered a success in my book. Record be damned. The infrastructure is far better now than what it was in 2018. And the underclassmen that have left the program have been far less than I expected with the change.

The entire situation feels like the first missed bullet for KUFB in over a decade. When the news first broke out of LSU, I think we were all understandably expecting an absolute doomsday scenario.
Deserved or not, Long was made to be the sacrificial lamb and that move and all subsequent moves have worked out very well for KU. In some ways, we may have received 90% of the benefit of hiring a big name like Les Miles who was clearly on his last job.

Les did as much as he was capable of doing off the field. He wasn’t mentally where we hoped he was. Dodged a bullet for sure.

If the miles tenure was a success, then we need to stop saying that we shouldn't expect more than 2 wins in a season before 2025.

All relative though.

Wins aren't really relative in the end unless you are Bruce Weber with a play hard chart.

Yeah, if we're getting excited that we're a better 1 win team than the 1 win team from 4 years ago, than you can leave me out.
We're giving out A grades about incremental improvements that aren't going to result in wins.
If that's the case, this might actually be the lowest point in KUFB history.

I will say this. With these moves, I think KU is a 3-9 or 4-8 team compared to 2-10 that I would have predicted a few weeks ago.

3 or 4 wins is actual, not relative, progress.
I'd be giddy like DC.

I'm under 3.
But, no tmcats bet where he predicts at least 3 wins but says 2 is a push.

Book it.

At least with those 3 games, we will quickly see how much worse shape the program is in compared to Buffalo's.
