Man.
Every time I try to be cognizant of the idea that maybe I really am the unreasonable one around here, you guys gotta go and out yourselves as the kinds of folks who pay $45 for bad bbq.
But, fuck it, if you can’t beat em join em…illy, I wanna log in as EmployedOusdahl again, so what’s that tater salad buyer position pay?

I wouldn't pay $45 for BBQ regularly, but an uncooked rack of ribs or brisket at the store isn't cheap either, and I'd still have to cook it.

Q39 has always been expensive. They're good and not a traditional BBQ joint but I think it's worth it. I've always been happy when I've eaten there.
I rarely go out for barbecue, it was awful in Lexington and I was pissed everytime I tried a new place no matter how highly the locals praised it. Blue Door was my last attempt. Brisket was dust dry and not very flavorful. There looks to be some decent Q here but I haven't tried any yet. I just cook at home now.
A whole brisket can run as much as 100 bucks. Pork butt is reasonable, I can usually find ribs at a decent price, a whole chicken can now go for over 10 bucks.
Meat is just expensive.

I've had Q39 twice. Great both times.
But it's not a contender to be at the top of my list of places I want to go when I am rarely in KC. When I was going to a half dozen games a year, sure. A game every year or two now means that I'm not getting very far down my list if I'm eating BBQ in KC. So Bryants is probably where I'd pick. I haven't tried Slaps yet since it opened about 10 years ago. It seems to get good reviews.

You can get a good portion of meat and 2 sides at Bryants for 25 bucks.
I got my pork butt for 11 bucks though and that was a ton of pulled pork.

SLAPS is pretty freaking allsome. Last time we were there we joked around with the Pearce bros for a while and got some great Q.
99's top Q joints in KC
LCs especially burnt ends RIP LC.
Kansas City Joe's is as consistent as it gets. Always good stuff.
Brobecks has the best ribs, good brisket but I didn't like their burnt end the one time I had them.
Woodyard has some damn fine ribs.
And of course SLAPS

BBs lawnside is another one I don't think I've tried. They all sort of bleed together as time passes.

Woodyard was pretty miss both times I went.
Love the spot, didn't love the que.

Love the vibe at BB's, I expect Patrick Swayze to put down a fight when ever I'm there. Lindsay Shannon is super nice. Their queue is not the best in KC. Would be the best about anywhere else. Nothing wrong with it.
It's been a couple years since I've been to Woodyard. Hopefully, they haven't gone downhill.

Pictures always look cool.
Maybe a better drinking spot with food secondary.

Jack Stack's sausage is the best in town.

I like LCs…but there was a photo of their smoker making the rounds…pretty nasty.
Jacks Stacks is for upper middle BWW Chads.

I admit I have little interest in reading an entire book on the subject - but this does interest me.

Man. So there’s a new bbq truck at one of the breweries here. Been sitting there for a few weeks now but never open.
But then it was open for the first time tonight! But I was torn between impulse trying it or sticking to the previously established plan of taco Tuesday at the crooked creek saloon. So many satellite threads to bump!
So I stick to the creek and, go figure, this Tuesday’s special is a smoked brisket taco. Shredded iceberg, queso fresco, and fresh grilled corn tortillas, delish.
For a dive bar they’ve really upped the taco Tuesday game. I didn’t even care that they were $45 bucks apiece.
The best part is I made friends with an entire rec league softball team. They took me in as their own. I was trying to casually nurse my bucket of coorses, but of course they include me in round after round of their ritualistic postgame shots.
Long story short I’m gushered
And all it cost me wasa bucket of coorses plus $135 worth of tacos…suckas…

Short story.
I am a unicorn, monkeys fly out of my butt, and I ate BBQ last night.
I'm confident our stories are equally true.
Back to BBQ.
I can't help but wonder how and why people decide what is "the best". A lot of different options in regards to specific BBQ foods (i.e. brisket, ribs, chicken, pulled pork, etc., etc., etc.) and what makes one better than the other? What makes Joe's ribs better or worse than Q39 or Jack Stack, or LCs?

Touche'!
Here is my take. It's similar to when someone asks me what is the best pizza in Chicago.
So many different kinds ("thin crust", "thick crust", "tavern style", "deep dish", "stuffed", "pan", etc.) and whatever makes pizza good to someone else is probably not the same as what makes pizza good to me - and of course vice versa.
Who made me the authority on what is best and why is my opinion better than anyone else's?
P.S. Paging Brando....
Five Guys sucks!
Brando is/was a BIG fan.
So..... Who is right and who is wrong?
Side note, the Five Guys in Lincoln Park sucks! The one on Michigan Avenue is actually decent if not pretty good.
