Not sure how I feel about this. Part of me says good for him but another part says, well that was really dumb because now he's probably going to face some serious repercussions.

Black white whatever...i dont blame the guy for knocking him on his ass. That is a respect thing not a race thing...my guess is the black dude would have had the same reaction to another black person if he came at him like that.

I also think the racist should suffer some sort of consequences (besides getting his ass kicked). But that dude is prob even more racist than before, and is prob eager to gloat all about it to his fellow klansmen at the next rally.

That dude also, coincidentally, fits the archetypal short fat white boy trying to compensate for his own miserable existence by a bullying a minority. Maybe you wouldn’t be so pissy in life if you had the will to loose about 40 pounds.

Is “boy” a racial slur?

I have a black friend who is offended by the term, but one anecdotal example isn’t necessarily a bright line test.

Hypothetically, rather than “boy,” what if the guy was using more obvious racial slurs?
My guess is your black friend wouldn't like being called "boy" in a disrepectful manner by another Black person either.

I do think it is very telling that in a 15sec video we have already decided the white dude is a racist klansmen because of the term "boy".

Is he racist? Maybe. Probably. Who knows.....i have seen white people call white people "boy" in a similar manner when attempting to be disrepectful, especially if the guy they are disrespecting is younger.

Videogames teach them that cops are the bad guys. So does Mrs. Fish's reaction to getting a speeding ticket, for example.

And then you see the local police officers uprighting trash cans that blow over in a storm, etc., or knocking on our door if our garage is open after dark, and you see the community service piece.

But then you have to explain why there are fully-justified protests happening around the country, and that the fact is that black people are treated differently than white people (on a population-level scale), and so on and so forth. It's exhausting, and there are no right answers, but it's necessary.
I always pictured Mrs. Fish as one of those “fuck da police” types.

And yes race is at the heart of it, and should be a big part of the discussion.

But another yuge element at play is the need for grander reform of policing in general. De-militarize that shit. De-brutalize that shit. Emphasize the community service, rather than community escalation. How much police (and police-escalated) brutality have we seen only in response to protesting against police brutality!

could you imagine being the parent of a black child, and feeling compelled to have “the talk” with them about how they can’t react/interact with police in the same way their white peers do?

that should be evidence enough for the ignoramuses of the world that there is a system of racism in this country

I think the lesson here is don't taunt someone who you cannot catch a punch from. Anyone who is taking Farmer Jimbo's side was never going to take the black dude's side anyway.

And white folks using "boy" to talk down to black folks is plantation lingo. It's a charged word, and I think it was more the Jimbo following the black guy while taunting. You are going to catch a forearm if you do that anywhere.

"The talk" should make them angry at all the ones that give them the bad stereotype. No one wants to talk about it, but someone I know (she is black) recently said she feels scared when a black stranger is walking on the sidewalk and feels safer when it's a white person.

i love it when ignorant people use anecdotes to try and prove something

it’s almost like facts and actual statistics don’t support their claims, so they have grasp on to anything that’ll support their narrative

How about the shit that went down in Dallas with the BLM people VS. the WalkAway people?
How many times do I need to explain to people that this is BY FAR the most divided our country AS A WHOLE has been in my 53 years of living.
So many different "causes" that are DIVISIVE and NOT unifying.
Anyone who doesn't think our current President plays a role (somewhere between minuscule to enormous) is simply a fool.

If you watch a few minutes in to the video you can see what actually went down.

Well, the entire point of the walk away counter protests seems to be to instigate a reaction from the blm protestors....but both sides looked like they wanted to get into it at various points in that video. None of that video is good for either of their causes at this point.

Need some more facts, but sounds like they could have just let him run.

Big issue so far sounds like on the call to police someone maybe told them he was threatening people with a weapon? My wife is a social worker, so i am torn on these types of scenarios....do i really want her being the one sent to deal with people (rather than police) who may be violent while she is unarmed and maybe not capable of defending herself against larger people? Not particularly.....i think the police need better training though FOR SURE. Shooting ANYONE should be an ABSOLUTE last resort.

Anyone know what happened here?

Besides being black, and a passenger in a Lyft with a broken tail light

What’s the precedent and stuff for providing ID to a cop?

A driver should, sure, but do passengers? Specifically, passengers in a commercial ride sharing vehicle?

Cuz whatever the precedent or law is, I doubt the standard protocol for the police response is to beat them to the point of a bloody seizure in front of their kids.

over a broken taillight.

He didn’t have an I.D. on his person. So strangle and beat the shit out him. I like how the other officer tried to thwart the cell video.
