Isn’t “everything is connected” like the philosophical tenet of dialectical materialism?

On a related note (see what I did there)…

one of DC’s memes suggests that, under capitalism, a forest has no value until it’s cut down.

speaking of…i just saw that the president of Ireland called for an end to the obsession with perpetual economic growth

“Many economists remain stuck in an inexorable growth narrative, or at best a ‘green growth’ narrative,” he said. “A fixation on a narrowly defined efficiency, productivity, perpetual growth has resulted in a discipline that has become blinkered to the ecological challenge – the ecological catastrophe – we now face.

That narrow focus constitutes an empty economics which has lost touch with everything meaningful, a social science which no longer is connected, or even attempts to be connected, with the social issues and objectives for which it was developed over centuries. It is incapable of offering solutions to glaring inadequacies of provision as to public needs, devoid of vision.”

the average ocean surface temp is damn near 70 degrees? thats seems insanely high even when you factor in the topics and the factit's only going to 60 degrees lat. . There are huge sections from 40 degrees north and south that never get about 55, no matter the season. Even the water off of California isn't warm by any means.

it is, actually (and surprisingly)

but that’s sea surface

even the deep ocean (200m+), though, is probably warmer than one might think (avg 39 F)

So, until we get coordination and cooperation it is just a conceited notion that the temperature goals can be reached. Adaptation to the warming trend seems to be one conceivable alternative presently.

Not meaning to be simply snarky, serious question. What part do you think we can adapt to and how?

Lack of water, lower food production due to heat and lack of water, rising sea levels just to name a few.

with recent history as a glaring example, our ignorance/pig-headedness/greed won’t allow for the most serious and impactful adaptations to happen

it’s not all that different from New Orleans. installing taller levees and bigger pumps is a stop-gap bandaid at best

short-sighted, and a waste of time and money
