Lost the game on a rugby play. Ridiculous.

There were three key officiating mistakes on huge plays in the second half. That hold wasn't just a missed call. It was ignored and made a 30-40 yard advantage. There was another hold in front of the long screen pass ignored. And then the whistle that never blew on the stopped fourth down advanced strip fumble. Two coach and that 35 point crap. Really? Hard to say what they should have had. But taking a knee after a bad call would have been sportsmanlike inside of a minute.

Hawks have given up 2 sacks in 5 games. 1 of those sacks at the end of the game today.

His forward motion had been stopped. Way to not make the call.
Refs seem slow to call forward progress stopped in general.
This wasn't just a guy who was stood up, he had been driven back 3 yards.

What made it so bad was that it cheated us out of an OPI call in the end zone to end the game.

We also ran the ball well.
O line has improved from bad to mediocre.

Yeah, you guys are probably right. Bummer that didn't go our way. Doesn't surprise me that the refs didn't know how to rule this as no one calling, watching or reffing the game had likely ever seen this before.

I believe it was a fumble. That OU RB had no damn clue what was going on.

I just don't see it crossing the LOS.

Even if you don't his forward progress was stopped. And like the tweet jfish posted, that should be interpreted as a fumble, not a handoff. The rb wasn't trying to hand it to the qb. Offense can not advance a fumble on 4th down.

Leipold is the guy, you guys. Not that it was that in doubt.
This
"This" what?
Let's be real here. He's the coach of a shit team that is 1-6.
A team that gave up 49, 45, 52, 59, and 41 points in consecutive games.
A team that gave up 35 2nd half points today.
If that's "the guy", I would hate to know what it would take to not be "the guy".

Yet we were cheated out of a chance to beat no. 3 OU.
Refs make the right call, who knows.
Its something we can hold on to.
We really have had nothing.

I don't think the wording of the rule is clear enough to call that a fumble by Oklahoma. Yes, it would be a fumble if KU ripped it out so I get the logic but I don't know. Nothing in the wording of the rule says that they have to be trying to hand it off, just that it is a change of possession from one teammate to another.

It's definitely not a handoff.
And it's a moot point if the play had been correctly blown dead originally.

I think how we look next week against OSU is a big litmus test.
Either the TTU game was the outlier or today's game was.
If we're competitive for 3 quarters against OSU then maybe TTU was the aberration. If we get blown out again, then maybe today was a fluke of playing a highly rated team that has a bad defense and completely overlooked us.
We'll see.
Either way it's WAY too early to say anything definitive about Liepold.

And the two or three fans on here who say, well, sometime in the third quarter KU got a first down on 4th and 1 where they shoulda called forward progress stopped...go watch that play again. We weren't stuffed for negative yards and moving backwards. We hadn't totally stopped moving forward, even if it was inches of moving forward.
So fuck off.

But why isn't it a hand off? It doesn't say anything about intention in the rules that were posted, just that it had to be a change of possession between teammates that wasn't a fumble. And the fumble rules just say it can't be an unsuccessful handoff. Not trying to be a pain in the ass here but it is just such a poorly written rule that it doesn't cover this specific situation. There is nothing about it requiring intent.
And yes, I agree that progress was stopped and it should have been blown dead.

Even if we get crushed by OSU, I still think, while we are awful, and our play calls have been, awfully awful until this point, you saw the KU players understanding they could compete.
I've had a slight taste of kool aid.
I think we can win 4 next year.
Which sucks but hey, 4 is more than 1.

Any defense of that call is merely to say it wasn't as aggregiousely bad as it seemed.
There's no argument to be made that it was the right call. Only convoluted excuses for a way to possibly justify it as a standard blown call.
