I walked out of my apartment building today and there was a police car parked in front.
I looked and noticed there were about 10 police cars on my street. I asked the officer what was going on. His response, "I don't know, I'm doing my business". My response, "I assumed you might know. I'm sorry to have bothered you. I hope you have a good and safe day". His response, "I told you, I don't know, I'm doing my business". I walked away.
A block away I noticed what was going on. A police officer that was shot in the head was leaving the rehab facility and going home. There were at least 100 cops outside the entrance there to celebrate. Nice and great gesture.
Meanwhile, the officer I asked really didn't know what was going on? Child please! I choose to assume he didn't give a shit or just felt a need to be a dick towards me. Either way, why?
As I proceeded to walk west on Erie Street a woman ran a red light, almost hit me, then almost sideswiped a police car. A cop saw EVERYTHING. I said to the officer - "She's whacked out. Not sure if she's drunk or on drugs or having a mental episode but she's clearly not right in the head". His response, "she's a bad driver", he shrugged his shoulders, and he didn't do a single fucking thing.
I said, "Well I hope she doesn't kill someone or herself".
Point of my sharing that is I feel this city (Chicago) could benefit from an extra 16,700 (or even 2 more) cops but unfortunately I think 16,698 of them might be basically worthless.

As far as Kyrie, I have very mixed feelings. So easy for others to criticize or praise him and yet I feel most of those doing the criticizing and praising don't take EVERYTHING in to account.

the example given was a woman who was supposed to have surgery for severe endometriosis. she is in Idaho, but the statistic was nationwide, i believe

it was a story on the local npr/public radio station...might have been Morning Edition

Mrs 99's knee replacement was elective. She was in a lot of unnecessary pain for months and had to miss a lot of work because they weren't doing elective surgeries.

and i almost said something along those lines in my response...that just because they are categorized as “elective”, doesn’t make their postponement any more convenient (not that illy was necessarily implying that with his question)

the story specifically mentioned detrimental health impacts, not just inconveniences, that were resulting from such delays

Postponed due to the hospital overflowing? or due to the hospitals safety precautions?

Post vaccine. All of the hospitals here quit doing elective surgeries because they were filling up with selfish a-holes who refused to get the vaccine cuz muh rahhhts.

Our hospitals around here in central IL have seemingly done pretty well for the most part. Goes to show that not all hospitals are created equally.

I have shared my "scary thoughts" about the largest (bed wise) hospital in Illinois.
I'll remind you, if you need a "bed" in the Emergency Room, there is a very good chance you'll be fucked.
As far as elective surgeries, I believe Northwestern shut them all down during the height of the pandemic. Not too sure what the status is now. I know I could get a few "necessary" procedures done if I chose to.
Usually big differences between elective, necessary, and urgent need.
