with the many hundreds, if not thousands, of deities invented by man, it would seem to make the most sense to just try and live a good life, rather than putting all your eggs in one basket

This guy gets it.

I’m always amazed that christians think their “god” is one of a few imaginary friends rather than the thousands that have been dreamed up

my rural nebraska in-law grandmother is adamant that hers is the ONLY one not invented by man

she’s got no actual reason for this, other than that’s just the way she feels

logic has completely gone out the door

i don’t, because she doesn’t force her views on me

why do you care what i think about her, or that i commented about the situation?

ya know, other than being an internet deviant and malcontent yourself...not to mention selfish and ignorant

i did? i called it illogical, which i’ve said directly to her. i also called her out for not getting vaccinated - her whole family did. she’d rather attempt to pray away covid.

i’ve told her to her face that it’s illogical. adults can have “difficult” conversations.

as much as you profess to being an adult, one would think you’d understand such things.

It's also the case that, particularly as my (very religious, and 78-year-old) mother ages, religion presents a unique threat of scammers, con artists, hangers-on and so on.

and the woman of which i speak has already been scammed twice (thanks facebook)

she lost money the first time, but fortunately her kids intervened before something equally bad or worse happened the second time

again, if it gives her comfort why do you care.

doesn't sound like she is going to get any comfort from you.

it’s a subject of conversation

i “care” because she’s otherwise an educated and intelligent woman. she’s been taken advantage of because of her gullibility, which extends to her church groups and pastor. it’s why she isn’t vaccinated. it’s why she’s a trumper. i care because it bothers my wife and the rest of her family.

why do you care what my motivations are?

I’m tempted to point out its actually a grandmother in law. Whole different ball game.

I’m also tempted to ask, more sincerely than it should have to be asked, how many religious types would prefer to have vaccinated folks burned at the stake.
