Yes, let's invest billions more to build a wall that does nothing but fatten the pockets of a developer and fuck up wildlife migration.
Come on, everyone knows Mexicans of every nationality are scared of heights.

To be fair, about half of that deficit will be made up by firing the entire federal civil service workforce. All we need is a few patriotic states to follow suit, and we're good as gold here.

Trump calling Mark Robinson "Martin Luther King on steroids" only to see Robinson call for a return to slavery while touting how much he loves tranny porn seems more like rock bottom but we clearly have different scales of good and bad.

Pet peeve, and i'm sure it'll get construed by some to a form of racism, but I am just not a fan of emphasizing certain words with an accent if you aren't speaking with that accent.

When I speak in German, I try as best I can to emulate words in the dialect - say I was trying to say Kansas City Chiefs - I don't suddenly revert to a very clear American accent and say the word like that.

AOC has always been a bit much for me.

Well, he is the GOP nominee for Governor of North Carolina. Like most Republican hypocrites, he says things in public about how horrible LGTBQ+ people are only to behave the opposite way in private.

And also, his name is spelled the usual way: Mark. I remain interested in seeing a breakdown of whose names MICH intentionally misspells.

But you don’t also deliberately mispronounce names of countries and call them Eye-rack and Eye-ran. Also it’s Pahk-is-thaan. One comes across as the arrogant, ignorant and disrespectful buffoon that they are when they say names of people and places to suit how they can say it.

The interview where he apologized right after? Adam’s was great there. Iranian press obviously not. Much more important hills to die on concerning how Iranian people might act towards Americans. Loved loved loved Tyler’s reaction and answer there.

I was in the Empire over the weekend. The tater harvest is in full swing. Tater trucks on every road, tater crews in every field, and the Western Union office and grocery and Tortillaria La Unica were packed. Thousands of checks being cashed and money sent back home to families in Guatemala. Harvest brings an average of about 2,000 migrant workers from Guatemala to the edges of town to get all of the taters out of the ground and into the warehouses. It can’t be done without them. I checked in with the grocery store owner and he is happy, sales are booming this time of year. I saw Abuelita Marta and gave her a hug. She owns the Western Union office and makes bank this time of year. I got flagged down by my friend Joaquin on the way out of town, he tossed a 75 lb bag of fresh dug taters in my truck, he said this was a boom year for the ranchers and the workers. Huge harvest and mild temps for the workers. Things will wind down soon and the workers will head home. Everyone will be a little more prosperous.

The summer tourists have all gone home. The 250,000 Mexican free-tail bats are heading back to Central America. Pretty soon 20,000 sandhill cranes will arrive to pick the fields clean before they head back to Mexico for the winter. Starting in November we will see the ski migrants passing through the valley. You can tell the time of year by the migrants passing through. Without them the San Luis Valley would have less richness of life.

We are ground zero of the migrant worker “crisis”, no sign of the hellscape I keep hearing about. Makes me wonder if any of those folks out there screaming about the “crisis” have ever seen how agriculture gets done, how food ends up on their tables. Do they even have people of color in their small angry little Midwestern sanctuaries?

They seem to be worried about becoming the minority race in their communities. My community is 85% Hispanic. It is mostly Mestizo; long time residents whose family history goes back to Spanish/Puebloan/Navajo/Ute ancestry. A big part of the culture is family. We have been adopted by the community. If I show up late in town, it is not unusual for someone to see my truck and stop by with a plate of tamales in case I didn’t have time to eat on the drive. As I was unloading the truck on Friday night, someone ran across the street to give me a hug and demanded to know why Annie didn’t come on this trip. And on my way out of town someone gave me 75 lbs of taters.

No such greetings when I arrived back in my neighborhood in KC.

Relax Hispanophobes, the new world isn’t going to be so scary. And the food is great.
