Doesn't communism on a national level require authoritarianism?

I mean, in a mostly capitalist system, if you don't want to participate, you will be poor.
In Communism, not participating results in jail, at least. It has to, or else people wouldn't work/contribute.

Is there anything stopping anti-Capitalists here from just forming communes, like kibbutzim?

Does communism require authoritarianism on a national level? I dunno. Could you offer examples? Of being jailed for not contributing.

And what constitutes authoritarianism? Isn’t Merican policing about as brutal as it gets? being poor in a capitalist system isn’t criminal in itself, but poverty ends up pretty correlated with crime and authoritarian policing either way.

And yeah if you don’t want to participate in capitalism you’re poor, but that also likely means you’re homeless, hungry, limited transportation, not medically cared for, and other lacks of basic resources that might otherwise be easier to come by in some commie country, in theory at least.

And one simply wanting to participate in capitalism is by no means a guarantee one will NOT be poor, either. Plenty of folks work multiple jobs and are still scraping by. (Where’s psych?)

Who really WANTS to participate in capitalism, anyway? Don’t most people hate their jobs?

I’m not familiar with kibbutzim. But yea, go figure that in such an uber-capitalist nation, communes is hard to come by. I’m guessing there’s a lot of social and economic and cultural reasons why.

Just started with the nearest Socialist nation, yes, people are jailed (or at least were - they're becoming increasingly privatized so not sure if the law is still in place, and if not), but yes, they get jailed for not working. https://archive.nytimes.com/economix.bl ... s-in-cuba/
I think you'd find the same in pretty much any Communist country. Feel free to name one that doesn't.

trying to wrap my head around this.

This should be, like, good for workers, right?

Then why am I waiting to hear some catch that it's mostly some performative gesture that does little to actually help workers and still mostly just helps the capitalist class anyway? Am I really that cynical?

how much of inflation can be blamed on corporate profits?

the whole "raising prices faster than costs" thing...

I've hesitated to post all this in the nothing matters any more thread, cuz it's mostly come from random tweeters, so maybe it's more fake news, and either way for whatever reason mainstream media hasn't mentioned it much

and also hesitated to post in the war thread cuz I'm tired of annoying you guys there too

but since you brought up in this thread here...

This reminds me a lot of the "Covid Lockdown Protests" that people were posting a couple years ago. "Massive lockdown protests rock Europe".

Turns out not so much. But peoples Twitter sure did convince them it was a worldwide revolution.

The point being that the people who are holding Joe Biden responsible for inflation are fucking morons.
