if that ends up being the reality, it would seem fairly likely that eventually the broadcast revenue disparity would essentially relegate every institution not in the big four to a tier 2 status, which, i would imagine, would eventually even affect b-ball
that is the absolute worst case scenario imo
If the NCAA maintains authority over all these conferences, then i'd agree it's the worst case scenario.
But if three/four conferences form some sort of super league and we get left out of it -- that's actually great news in my opinion.

even if the effect eventually trickles down to b-ball?
i don’t want to see KU become a second class citizen of sorts in college athletics. if that happens, do you really think we’d have any shot at getting another “Bill Self”?
i don’t...at least not for a 20+ year stint

"Second class citizen" wouldn't bother me if "first class citizen" is professional sports for young people.

so, you’d be fine never again having the kind of success we’ve had for the last 20ish years?
i think that’d suck pretty bad...basically being on par with statie

I think we'd still be successful but in whatever organization there would be ( and there would still be one ) of college athletics beyond those 60 some odd 'schools'.
Again, I don't care about what BWW Chad thinks.
I'm not watching for him.

We'd do just as good in basketball.
We can't do any worse in football.
We just wouldn't make as much money. Oh well. It shouldn't be ONLY about the money.

the wealth gap would only increase, which eventually would hamstring KU with worse athletic facilities across the board
b-ball wouldn’t suffer immediately, but would over time, imo

I think it is time to look for other revenue streams based on basketball. Maybe grab the tournament revenue away from Indianapolis.

Final Fours are fun. I'd hate to have to argue against that. And you have to spend to win. Which, KU does.

I think this is an underrated part of realignment this time. That tourney revenue going to NCAA is bound to change, especially with a Power 4.
We're hearing more this time around: Brand, and overall school profile (academics). Less about football and market.

We aren't top 20 in revenue and have elite basketball facilities. That won't change. The huge donors are still the donors. They'll cover the gaps. Basketball will be fine.
Gonzgaga is doing just fine the last 20 years and they don't have near the ability to sustain eliteness as we do regardless of conference.

We wouldn't be competing against the pro 64 though - only the schools in our organization.

we’d be competing against them for recruits and coaches, would we not?

“just fine” isn’t good enough for me
that’s kstate-level justification. it’s cool...you can be fine becoming a b-ball-only school. i’m not ok with that

And fwiw there won't be 64 schools if it goes to some crazy super league. It'll be about 25 or 30.
