Besides the dizzying difference in death rates, unvaccinated people are 13 times more likely to become infected with COVID-19 than fully vaccinated people.

I don't think waiting a bit for the younger kids is a dumb dumb move if you are in a situation where your kids are pretty well protected already. We have a trip coming up at the end of December so we are not waiting but if we didn't have that trip I would probably wait a bit. Things are pretty quiet locally and we aren't seeing many cases at all in our school district thanks to mask requirements. And I'd be stunned if McConaughey's kids are in public schools like us commoners.
