So if Billy help us get the W over Oregon, or if Silvio helped us keep the streak going, your reaction would have been, welp that sucks.
Probably not in the moment.
But i'd probably stop following Kansas as much as I do - more like I follow the Celtics.
Watch a few games a year and then the playoffs.
In a sense, i'd be BBW'ing Chaded.

Just a personal preference and maybe I find another thing to watch, like the WWE.

I highly doubt it. But, if true, you are very very very much the anomaly, not the norm.

I think starting a KU message board could also be considered very much an anomaly, not the norm, unless y'all have a bunch of KU message boards you haven't invited me to.

If we start talking contracts 5 years from now in college sports, i'll just watch more NBA, that's the best place to watch the pros.

By pdub’s logic, he should have already stopped paying attention to Kansas a long time ago.

So, you're saying that (a) you are an anomaly, in that you are interested enough to start a message board, and (b) you are also an anomaly, in that you would lose interest if players make real money?

I will say that i've missed games over the last season or two that I would religiously not miss.
The mess with the NCAA ( though the NCAA is a clown show ) is definitely a downer for me -- and if the NCAA had a history of consistent punishment, I wouldn't have issue with us loosing a Final Four and being suspended from the tournament.

Correct.
I would say i'm passionate enough about college basketball and Kansas basketball to where I would do something like this.
And I'm also saying I would loose the passion for it if it became something I didn't like.

I go to a hole in the wall local pub ( or used to pre-covid ) because I like the people.
If the local pub gets a new more expensive menu, a big loud digital jukebox, installs a dance floor and a bunch of new clientele come in who I don't vibe with, i'll find a different pub.

Some people who love that pub won't care if the pub has changed - it's still the pub in name for them - and that's fine too.

Bro I heard Larry Brown bought KU a new juke box. Better stop paying attention 30 years ago.

Why do you think players getting money legally rather than under the table means that they would somehow be less competitive and care less about winning @ Kansas than they currently do?

Self gets paid millions a year and he still seems to love/care about Kansas as much as any of us do.

Yep.

The positive change that I and others have been advocating for is bringing this all out from under the table. Put it above board and in the light.

This notion that n/i/l is tainting the sport with money and makes it a different sport is pure feely-goody fantasy.

I like college basketball because it is different than the NBA.
You see teams like Dayton come together and have incredible seasons.
You have players who know they'll be playing their last season in competitive sports.
You don't have players in sprite commercials tweeting how unhappy they are with their current contract.

If college wants to be more like the NBA, just watch the better product, where the actual pros play.

Why not just restrict freshmen, and then after that, earn all you can for nil.
Because without freshmen, there are no sophomores, juniors and seniors.
The sport would be better if the 5-10 ready fpr nba players who don't want to be there stopped coming.

by this logic, might as well just ditch college ball and exclusively watch high school sports.

When I was in HS my class had 3 spectacular 2 sport athletes (relatively speaking)...all 3 had good freshman seasons for JV and spot minutes on V...that summer the private school in my city offered all 3 scholarships and poof, they were at the private catholic school before sophomore season.

It's not like the pros if the school isn't involved in paying them.

And newsflash: most of our rotation players are being compensated "illegally" already. So if purity is what "we" are searching for then that ship sailed 40+ years ago.

But I attended KU.
And have followed KU since I was a kid.
And if at these crossroads the G League got the kids who wanted to play pro to play pro and college became more an amateur sport than it is now, i'd be into it.

And I do watch some local high school sports on TV when they are on -- but I don't have an allegiance to these small Maine schools.

I think it'd just mean Mitch Lightfoots get the money that goes to Billy Prestons.

And G league's 500k salary development program is only available to 15 or so kids. It's not even going to make a dent in the issue of players getting paid to go to certain schools.

And it's interesting hearing some insiders talk about it....they had to make it 500k because otherwise regular G League salary couldn't compete with the "salary" they were getting to go to places like Kansas duke Kentucky unc etc.

(Plus, nearly all of our rotation players want to play pro....even 4 year players like Marcus Garrett...he's still in school because he's trying to become good enough to play pro, not to finish his degree or becuase he loves KU...even if he does ALSO love KU a whole lot and want a degree...it's not mutually exclusive)

...and very few want the colleges themselves paying the players. Most of us just want the players to have the same opportunities regular students have. Let them have a YouTube show. Advertise on instagram. Outside entities not involved with the school at all are the ones who really want to pay them.

What if college ball is (and always has been) much closer to the kc phogushers than you’d like to think?
No.
But ending the age restriction to the NBA and making the G League lucrative will get more of the kids who don't have interest in attending college to play in the pros which means less money in college basketball.
Less money, maybe, but I don't think it will see less action. Nike is still going to want the best players at their schools. Same with Adidas. And Under Armor. Only change is that instead of knocked down Zion's door for him to go to Duke, you're looking at guys like McCormack and Dotson who are a bit more down the rankings and not the G League ready players. It's not like a player will sign an endorsement deal with Nike, then play for an Adidas school.

The shady recruiting/dirty money will still be there. The only thing that will change is the target.
