I think the point is that things are not under control.
I think you are correct, and yet, I also think the opposite is true too.
That things are too much in control, by people who I feel shouldn't be making the decisions that they are making.
So, where if anywhere do we go from here?

It is amazing, to me, that people will simply not listen to what Trump and Project 2025 are TELLING YOU OUT LOUD they will do. And for which the path has been very graciously paved for him/them, and which path they will burn to the ground behind them to keep anyone from catching them from behind.
I am very concerned that we are so polarized that people will not take even the five minutes needed to understand
just how dramatically the Court has moved our country toward unrestrained authoritarianism in just the last WEEK.
There now
is no recourse at law in the case the President uses "core" powers to punish his enemies - including by imprisoning them, or worse - or enrich himself and his friends.

So, this Novembers election will be monitored by Right Wing goons, empowered and swooning with the pardon promise.
Tabulations NOT in their favor will likely be met with violence.
If indeed Trump loses, there is no way the Right will accept the result.
Trump gets back into power, one way or the other.
I said a year ago that the US probably had its’ last actual election in 2020.

I would say she is undoubtably ONE of the biggest dingbats. That's not really saying much.

I admit my ignorance. Supposedly Congress (and "the states"?) have SOME power over the Supreme Court.
I have read that "Congress" does NOT have the authority to "abolish" the Supreme Court but let's say the Supreme Court went especially nutso and made horrible decisions that would lead to the destruction of the country. What powers are in place to prevent it from happening?

In general, the idea is that the legislative branch makes the law, the executive branch enforces the law and the judicial branch interprets the law.
So in theory, the judicial branch should fill in the gaps in laws passed by Congress.
That theory falls apart some when the judicial branch takes an expansive view of its role, including by overzealously (and I would say selectively) declaring some laws to be illegal in the womb (sorry).
No law that is not the Constitution trumps the Constitution.
And so if your question is specific to - can Congress legislate away from this week’s Supreme Court holding as to the President’s immunity under the Constitution as it sits…the answer is probably not. And it will be the Court that answers the question…so you tell me how you think that goes.
And so the short answer to that question is that fixing this problem - which is now the law of the land - almost certainly requires an amendment to the Constitution. Which, considering the approval threshold for those, seems highly unrealistic any time soon.
