Whatever (and not denying at all) the impact of NIL and (much more meaningfully, IMO) the portal, I would guess that a lot of the malaise is attributable to this team basically being the same story of the last few years (which, with the title getting some gray hair as unfairly as that is, have been uninteresting and ultimately unsuccessful).

I just dunno how much NIL affects the enthusiasm of most fans.
I do think the portal may have a slightly more significant effect, since maybe some fans aren't as interested when there's so many new faces to learn.
But I still think the strongest correlation is the on-court product. If the game is exciting, then the fans will get excited.

of course NIL impacts fans enthusiasm. Its easier to cheer for your "peers" than for professionals you see on campus (or rather, advwrtisements on campus) in Porsches and lambos
