No more shrinkflation? PepsiCo says it will add more potato chips to some bags

PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP) plans to put more Lay’s, Doritos, Tostitos and Ruffles potato chips in some bags after hearing criticism about the reduced size by weight of individual bags over the last two years. The so-called "bonus" bags will contain 20% more chips for the same price as standard bags in select locations. PepsiCo (PEP) is also adding two additional small chip bags to its variety-pack option with 18 bags.

During PepsiCo's (PEP) Q3 earnings conference call (transcript), CEO Ramon LAguarta said the food and beverage giant wants to use the fall and winter to put more investments behind the Doritos and Tostitos brands in general.

"It’s the football season, there are a lot of gatherings, and those brands belong very well in those gatherings. And it will be a combination of value in the form of bonus packs and more product too. Obviously, these are large -- normally large group gatherings, so bonus packs make a lot of sense. We're giving 20% more product in Tostitos and Ruffles, some of the brands that belong in those locations."

It is unclear if the company will keep the promotion going well into 2025.
