Conference Realignment..?
Re: Conference Realignment..?
I see 2 new pages of conference realignment and was all excited. Then I read it and it is about soccer. I agree with TraditionKU, if KU is not in the big 4 conferences, the talent of coaching and players will suffer over time. Maybe not in 1 or 2 years but for sure within less than 10 years. I don't want this.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
There was a time when non-Ivy League football was second tier. There is a season for everything. The SEC's is about to run its course too. Soccer may well be the money sport in 10 years. Snobbery and silliness ultimately push people into the next big thing.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
nothing new, just thought it interesting to see the lists of names...
...The Big 12 ended up with 12 finalists for expansion in 2016: Air Force, Brigham Young, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Connecticut, Houston, Rice, South Florida, Southern Methodist, Temple and Tulane.
Other applications were received. Schools that did not make the cut were Arkansas State, Boise State, East Carolina, Memphis, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, San Diego State and Nevada-Las Vegas.
This time around, the top contenders are expected to be BYU, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Houston, Boise State, SMU and Memphis...

Re: Conference Realignment..?
I'll enjoy wherever KU lands. Just not that big of a deal in the end.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
I'd rather they figure out a way to make it work with the remaining 8 schools.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 11:06 am nothing new, just thought it interesting to see the lists of names...

How did Boise State not make the final cut but now they're a final contender?

Re: Conference Realignment..?
I dunno, if you make the right decisions and the teams you bring in are competitive, win some bowl games, make some sweet 16s, maybe it's alright, in terms of on field/court product and competitiveness.
I mean, it's bad, don't get me wrong. But if you choose the right school's at the right time, maybe it's less bad.
Also, one of two things is gonna happen from the Super-SEC. It will become a success, and then the Pac12 and B1G, and ACC will do the same, giving KU a landing spot. Or the new SEC will be a failure...people will realize that if OU and Alabama, for example, are in different divisions, it might be several years between matchups if they don't meet in the title game, same with basketball where you might not even play certain teams. I really do think it's just gonna feel like two conferences that share a name, and other than conference tourneys and football title games, often doesn't give you the matchups you want.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
well of course it's better. But, I'm just saying it won't be as good as it seems at first blush.
If two years from now the B1G added us, we'd be added to the West, so we'd be in a division with:
Northwestern
Nebraska
Wiscocnsin
Minnesota
Purdue
Illinois
Iowa
That would be for sure in football, not sure how they'd do things in basketball, but at 16 teams, you'd probably need divisions in hoops too. (maybe you do 4 team divisions, you do home and home with your division and play everyone else once?)
That's not exactly the sexiest list of teams to be in a division with, and you barely, or at least less frequently get to play, Michigan, tOSU, Michigan State, Penn State (in football), Indiana (in basketball).

Re: Conference Realignment..?
I get it, but here we are.
Original Big 12 or even original Big 12 plus 4 would be the sexiest thing.
And I actually do think that a watered down B1G football schedule with a kickass hoops schedule (which we'd get) sounds really good.

Your football schedule will be fine, basketball would be really good.

If the basketball schedule was set up in divisions, and you played a home and home with the other 7 teams, that's 14 games, that leaves...at most 6 games against the other division.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 11:37 amSign me up for a divison with Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, NW, Illinois, Purdue, Nebraska.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 11:17 am And I actually do think that a watered down B1G football schedule with a kickass hoops schedule (which we'd get) sounds really good.

I mean, they could have a great basketball schedule...or they could fuck it up.
I'd think the best plan is to have 4 divisions of 4 teams, you play everyone in your division twice (6 games) and everyone else once (12 games) 18 game schedule.
Right now, there are no divisions and they play 7 teams twice and 6 once (20 games). You could continue that and play 4 teams twice and 12 teams once, but no divisions.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
I am probably reading into it what I want to, but it doesn't sound like the expansion talks are going all that great.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
Good. Blow the Big 12 up. Blow the NCAA up. All hail our Big 10 savors.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
i’m warming to the idea of adding boise st., byu, cincy and maybe houston (not quite sold on that fourth spot). maybe memphis instead
it’s obviously worst case scenario...but trying to be optimistic, should no other movement happen in the next few years

I am actually not against some destination spots like San Diego or Vegas.
