You're the google expert. It didn't take me long to find studies/articles about how golf courses can/are having positive impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem management....some of the scientific articles are from long before the ASCP was created. So there's that.

I will post some links for you in the golf thread....

i know you’ve got more direct experience with golf courses than i...i never claimed anything different

but, how many courses gave you worked at? heck, how many have you played at? of the roughly 16,000 in the US, your experience is relatively limited

i’m glad that principles and philosophies of conservation-oriented golf course design and management are being taught, but golf courses are for-profit entities and your kidding yourself if you don’t think they cut corners...particularly those that are out of the spotlight (the vast majority), like a Torrey Pines

your blind trust that they’re all doing the right thing is hilarious, particularly when there seems to be a robust certification “system” in place, at least for the US. i also don’t see why you seem to take issue with the ASCP when the USGS supports them

if courses, generally, were behaving in the way you’re positing, then there’d be no need for the ASCP...much like if zoos all operated above board, there’d be no need for AZA accreditation

as i said before, i’m sure there are some courses that do a phenomenal job (about 13%), but you’ve provided nothing other than anecdotes to indicate it’s a national or global trend

I just posted 2 links to the R & A. They're the USGA of the rest of the world basically. It's going on around the globe.

Smaller golf courses are more likely to be working with local conservation specialists for numerous reasons.

And i never said all courses engage in perfect environmental practice, but most care about the land/course and want to take care of it and the animals (golfers and other species) that call it home.


If we are going that route then ANY land use that disrupts the natural environment is bad. At least golf courses can/do have some positive impact (even if it is minor in some instances). A basketball arena or football stadium provides no positive environmental impact for the animals that used to call that land home.

i don’t want it to seem like i’m singling our golf, because it isn’t just about courses

there has to be a reimagining of resource use in the west, by ALL activities...golf, car washes, home landscaping, state/federal property management and landscaping, etc.

the status quo isn’t going to suffice, lest the near entirety of the region becomes uninhabitable

I literally posted an article that shows the positive impacts courses have on biodiversity in urban areas.
